EAA Witness Elite Match

This is a discussion on EAA Witness Elite Match within the Autoloaders forums, part of the Armory category; Does anyone have any experience with EAA Corp. and their pistols? More Specifically the EAA Witness Elite Match, but anything would be appreciated...

Can't tell you anything about the gun but I hear from sources in the know that their customer service is not the best around.

I'm interested in a decent range/general-purpose competition (non-carry) gun for $700-$800. It doesn't need to be a perfect gun, but a good start would be nice; good quality, decent trigger/barrel. It also needs an ambidextrous safety or at least the option to add one, and a good aftermarket selection would be a plus.

I'm doing my own research, but if someone has a good suggestion (in addition to the CZ75B) I would appreciate it.

I would suggest the M&P 40 Pro. It is a good and extremely decent range general purpose gun. It also fits IDPA standards for a production gun.

I have a full sized Witness in .40 (all metal). Love it. It's a SA/DA weapon. It's hvy, but that is a bonus.

I have a Witness Elite Match in 9mm with their .22 LR conversion for it.
It is my favorite shooting 9mm.

Single action only, but quite a decent trigger on it.
The frame is oversize and a bit heavy for the 9mm as the same frame is used for all the calibers EAA offers.
I have run a regular Witness P model top end and mags in .45 acp on it occasionally, without problems.
I had trouble with the slide locking back with one round left in the magazine last time out.
First time it has done that so I'm not sure what is happening yet.

Some folks have reported troubles with reliability with the .22 LR conversions.
Mine runs very well.
But, as with many conversions, the slide doesn't stay open after the last round is fired.

A few guys shoot the 9mm in Production in USPSA. It is heavy (which they like), and the SA trigger pull (after the first DA pull) is great. You just have to get use to the first heavier, longer pull.

The quality on them is awesome, but for a price of double that of most poly guns. Accessories are hard to come by. Mags are hard to come by, and customer support from Italy is poor. The Cocoa Beach, FL address is just the importer as I understand. Guns needing work go back to Italy.
