I recently got a new G22 Gen4 and had a chance to shoot it today. I am really loving the Gen4 grips and overall feel of them. Before the Gen4 Glocks, I never had any interest in them but once I held a Gen4 19, it was all over.
I think the M&P40 may be a softer shooter but since I'm mostly Glock now, I went with the G22 this time. It handled the recoil very well and wasn't unpleasant to shoot by any means.
However, iIf I were recommending a 40 caliber to a new shooter, it'd be an M&P40. I may have to keep an eye out for an M&P40 police trade in just to have one....again. They are very nice pistols for sure. S&W did a great job on them.
