This is my formal carry piece:

And I really do carry it, and have shot it in three IDPA matches so far...

I only carry what I can afford to have taken away. Use your firearm to protect yourself, it will be taken as evidence. It may never see the light of day again. I don't care what the lawyers say, up here it will take you at least a year or two to get your firearm back. The DA likes to play games, doesn't think you should " take the law into your own hands". Most often, your legal fees out weigh the original cost of the firearm. I surely wouldn't be carrying any Baer, Nighthawk, Colt, etc.

Thank you Sir!

There are actually six more in the 1911 collection.

Those two are my favorites in part because they were anniversary presents from my wife; the Baer at 25 years, and the Wilson on our 30th.

I believe in carrying the best I can afford to protect myself and my family.

If I have to shoot someone; firearm cost will be the last thing on my mind.

Thankfully, I live in a "free state," where those determined to have survived a crininal encounter with a "good shoot" are shielded by state law from fallacious civil suits.

These days, the M&P9 or my 9c are my most often used carry pistols, along with two 17 round reloads (with X-Grips for the 9c).

Well, it all depends on my clothing and where I'm going.

In the past it was a 1911 in .45ACP flavor. Now it's mostly a M&P 9c carried off body in a Maxpedition Fatboy pack. But if I'm dressed more formally I carry a SIG p938. For day trips and such I've been known to take a carbine as well. Today it's a Keltec Sub2000 mousegun in a laptop case, in years past it was a pencil barrel AR in a much larger case that screamed "RIFLE!". Soon the sub2k will be housed in a LA Police Gear 3 Day Backpack so that I can carry a bunch of other gear as well.

My EDC 9c has a 12 round mag in place and a 27 round mag as the reload. I very much doubt that I'll ever need that many rounds to get to my Sub2k. Heck, I very much doubt that I'll ever need any.

Brien: Do you train with your off-body carry setup?

I carry off-body when bicycle riding, but other than that, prefer either an OWB or IWB holster.

My concerns are strictly time related.

I can draw and get multiple shots off in just under one second from a holster under a cover garment.

For that reason, carrying a folded up rifle in any sort of case has not appealed to me as a primary carry weapon, though I often have an AR and multiple 30 mags accessible from my drivers seat when traveling, as a secondary weapon.
