Im a LEO and my duty weapon is a Block 22. Ive got big fat hands and ive noticed that in a rapid draw combat situations i get some slide bite. Ive tried everything to fix it, but ive learned to live with it. Anyway, my off duty gun is a MnP 40FS. If i were to remove the beaver tail, would i get the same slide bite? Has anyone run into this, if so i like to get some oppinions. thanks

The beavertail is there to prevent slide bite.

For me, the beavertail was there to poke me in the love handles constantly while I carried... I trimmed mine down and have absolutely zero problems with slide bite. I didn't trim it completely off, but I got pretty close. For me, the grip is deep enough under the slide that I didn't need anything hanging out past the slide to combat slide bite.

I have a M&P40c and they dont come with beavertails and I havent had a cut or bruise yet. to the leo,i have installed glass (auto) for the last 24 yrs,i cant carry a glock ,i have a big bulge, when i make a fist from cutting w/s out,my m&p 40c melts into my hand,go ahead and cut the whole beavertail off,the bottom of the tail will still be there, keeping your hand lower and you will have no,slide bite, plus it will look better-jeff |

another question to captain, is the beavertail a solid piece of polymer? or would i need to fill it with something?

In my humble opinion, that beaver tail is there to stop the bite.
By the time I set my gun into both hands prior to firing that tail is way down in the paws with very little to stop a slide bite. S&W should have give you larger grip pads to put onto your gun. Have you tried them? Other than that I cannot think what to do... but I would not cut that slide tail. |

Mine was solid, but apparently some have found air bubbles in theirs that required filling - that shouldn't be too common though...

I used the sanding drum on my dremel to take a little off at a time and to shape it (roughly). Then used fine sandpaper to smooth it out and finished it off with 0000 steel wool.

I never get slide bite with my 9c, but I have been known to get slide bite from a Glock.
I don't think you'd have to worry about it. |

Here is my 45 and 9mm. I did the 9mm after this picture was taken. I didn't remove the material all the way up to the rear of the slide like it is on a Glock. There is no way to get slide bite like this. Both pistols I've done were solid and had no voids. David

I think I am going to send mine off to have the tails removed . With my handsize they really don't do much.

As easy as mine was to take off, I wouldn't send it off…

Did mine today. It carries more comfortably now as well.
