CCW in SC

Recently, while driving through South Carolina, I got a bit careless with my speed. I had the pleasure to meet a very respectable and professional sheriff's deputy. He was excellent - no sarcasm. During this traffic stop, he informed me that I was incorrectly carrying my M&P Shield - it was in a holster on my right hip. I was told that it should have been in the console or glove box - not on me. Any thoughts about this? Thanks for any input.

I was wondering why but after reading the SC site I wonder if you where open carry?

Open Carry is illegal in South Carolina. Even those with a valid permit/license to carry a concealed firearm can not legally open carry.

As I understand it, South Carolina has CCW permit reciprocity with very few other states but allows in-car carry if the gun is in the glove compartment or center console. To get a SC CCW permit you must be a state resident.

OH and SC have reciprocity. It was cold that night. I had on a light jacket. The officer did not mention open carry other than it should not have been on me and should have been in the console or glove box. Again, he was very good about it and sent me on my way, slower, of course.

Absent any more information; I'd say you were a lucky fellow.
