Congrats on becoming a legally armed "good guy with a gun."...especially in Illinois

But, WOW, what a difference two states and a few hundred miles make.....

Here's my story....
I received my Ohio CCW a few weeks ago.
I turned the completed application and CCW course certificate copy in to the county Sheriff's office at 11AM on Wednesday (by appointment) where they told me that "three to five days is the typical wait time." At 11AM on Thursday (the very next day) the County Sheriff's office called to tell me that "Your permit is ready to be picked up."....24hrs total and that includes the FBI background check, that I paid an extra $24.00 for, because I hadn't lived in Ohio for all of the last five years.
...coulda knocked me over with a feather, I tells ya!

Yep, that's a good deal. All said and done I probably spent around 400.00 to get mine. But I guess u can't put a price tag on safety.

That is fast! I got my Texas CHL in 10 business days after submitting the application and required documents and I thought that was fast. My son-in-law got his Texas CHL years ago and it took close to 8 weeks. Either Texas is getting faster at processing applications, or I caught them at a slow time.

I applied for my Ill. CCL almost as early as you could in Jan. and it was issued March 10. Actually the State Police have done a pretty good job, IMO, in keeping up with the apps. It's nice to know that something is working in this back-assward state!
The biggest thing the Legislature needs to work on now, ( yeah right ), is the easing of some of the restrictions on where you can carry. There are almost as many places where you can't carry as where you can. Chicago is a whole other problem. Many of us down-staters don't go to Chicago unless we have to and definitely don't try to carry there. It's a shame...We used to visit several times a year and spent a lot of money there too!

I have no desire to go to the city. My preference is to head 11 miles north into WI, or 360 miles north to the UP.

+1 on WI and they now recognize our IL license! As do most of the "better" states around us!

Yes, true. I would like to see CO recognize the IL CCW as we are taking a road trip out there next year. I'll be applying for a Florida permit next. From what I've heard the local PD's aren't a fan of doing prints.

Our son lives in CO and I'd like to see them recognize IL as well!
I had my electronic fingerprinting done with a company called Accurate Biometrics. I believe those records are then available for any need you would have for fingerprints including additional CCW permits. Their URL is www.accuratebiometrics.com .

I second the Comp Tac, check out the Infidel Deluxe 1.5, it is very comfortable and easy to put on and take off . There is plenty of leather on the skin side.

I went through a number of holsters for the Shield and settled on a Bianchi Leather model 100 size 13 for IWB and a DeSantis Leather Mini Scabbard 019X7 for OWB. The mini scabbard has the advantage of being adjustable for tension and has become my favorite way of carrying the Shield, when OWB is possible.
