True, but the worst drivers retired down here from "up north!"

Well I finally received my amended permit in the mail today, over TEN weeks for basically some data entry. I Guess I should be happy it came today, and not tomorrow, at least I can pick up the new gun tomorrow!

I moved out of NYS 17 years ago, never to return--got tired of the gun laws, the taxes, the socialists, the business restrictions, and the entitlement crowd...LEAVE NYS you'll find freedom elsewhere--leave NYS to the social welfare class and watch them run out of $$$...they'll have that on pay-for-view...

Where did you pick up the .22 compact?
A gun shop that I normally deal with, wouldn't sell me one because of the threaded barrel.

It actually takes longer than that here, the whole "process" can take up to TWO YEARS!

Two years? I had my target in 12 months (Westchester) back in 2012 and full Cary in another 12 (Putnam) . Maybe the choice should be to move out of Westchester... The proximity to NYC is reason for the tighter restrictions.

That's ridiculous, glad you finally got your paperwork though. Definitely get the hell outta there, come down south or move out west. Here in Virginia (a shall-issue state), I think it took the local court about 2 weeks to get my permit to me.

Although Monroe county has "walk up" service to add a new pistol, the fact they must list all on a permit is so outdated. Then if you have more than 8 or 10 you need a second flimsy piece of paper to add to the first flimsy piece of paper. One county west they moved to plastic cards and they actually fit in a wallet. The CCW from Monroe are printed on this odd size paper made from papyrus leaf. Your not allowed to laminate anything on to help protect it either. The county clerk office here is actually very good but they're still forced to work with 1950's methods.

In Oct. 1981 I turned 21 and was at the County Clerks office the next day with paperwork in hand. Two weeks to the day, I had my CCW permit in hand and heading to the range. Back then, as now, a judge had to sign your permit. Then, there wasn't a database available to check your background so it seemed a reasonable step. Nowadays, the Sheriffs or State Police have all the access needed so the wait period is pretty much artificial. My dad was right in telling me to get a pistol permit as soon as I was 21 whether I was to use it or not.

Here in Broome County it used to be about a week. Then the owner of a small gun store was talking with the judge form 1 county over and mention the week long wait. Well he said he has a signed copy of the form in the computer so anyone who brings down the paperwork can take home the coupon right way! He called our judge who now does the same thing, walk up service.

It did take about 2 weeks for my CCW permit to be amended but at least they are issuing them now. It sucked when the previous judge wouldn't do it. We are also allowed to co-register guns in our county.

I just wish we had the plastic cards instead of the stupid paper ones.
