Finally got in and took CCW course

Well, I finally got into a class and it was today. I enjoyed the class. It had great info and was taught by a great guy, a MO state trooper. Even though MO passed a new law and after January 1 a permit is not required for CCW in the state, there are still many reasons to take the class and get the permit. You need the permit to carry out of state and numerous benefits in state. We qualified from 7 yards with three .22 pistols. One was a Chiappi 1911 style pistol that jammed every other round, but he likes that to teach how to clear the malfunction. Second was a Ruger Mark that was pretty good, but hard to see the sights looking into the sun. Finally a S&W DA revolver that I was very accurate with. I'm happy to say I passed and was given the top gun award of the class for the best overall group. I won three cheap Chinese pocket knives. Now I just have to apply for the permit with the sheriffs dept.

Good for you!

Maine has much the same permit requirements, or lack thereof. No permit needed to carry, but additional restrictions for those folks and benefits for permit holders. I've had a permit since '81 so for me there was no change when Constitutional Carry became law.

When national reciprocity goes through permit holders will have HUGE benefits. Trump wants that badly.

I think I read that about Maine while reading an article about our new law.

Congrats!

I got my Fla. CCW back in '87, and had a Georgia one prior to that.

Do yourself a BIG favor, and sign up for some real pistol training.

Thanks Rick. I am either going to take another class by the same instructor or just go shoot with him. He offered to have me come back to shoot with him. He is a trooper and teaches for the Missouri Highway patrol. I'm pretty sure he will be good to learn from.

Thanks Bill, from another Bill. I went and paid at the sheriffs office, got fingerprinted and now have to wait several weeks for my permit.

Congrats from a Middle Tennessean. I took a class along with my wife, we had Classroom plus a range to get our permit. That didn't include going to the Highway Patrol office for more paperwork plus doing a finger print check. We try to make it a point to go to the range at least every two months to shoot.

Thanks Markie. The process in MO is the same. Class, Range, application, finger prints and then the sheriff gets final say. He can deny it if he just feels bad about my name. I'll keep trying to get my wife to take it, but I have little hope.

It was very fast. They said I would get the letter in 2 weeks. It's been 4 days.
