Shot my 1st comp today.

Was able to take a trip to the range today to shoot my 1st comp ever for real firearms. (IDPA)
Started out on the longest stage which made it a little crazy for the 1st timer and forgot about one target. Missed a couple plates on the last stage as well (they sure did make sure to hide some things). However, I had a blast. Finished 1st in my class (limited minor unclassified) and look forward to getting back and improving on my scores and times.

I will have a couple videos of some of the stages soon. I have a lot to learn. Good thing is I really do not have many bad habits as i'm a new shooter so nothing has been burned into my head.

If you're shooting Limited Minor, and they had hidden targets, I'm guessing you were shooting a USPSA match, not an IDPA match! But either way, I'm glad you had a blast!

Jeff, I thought the same thing when I got there. However, they still had it listed as a IDPA. Either way, I am hooked and am ready to go back. I need to get a new holster besides the Serpa I ran yesterday, and order some more mags before my next venture.

How many mags could you carry? That will answer the IDPA/USPSA question.

Shooting from cover, concealment garments, 10-round max, 3 mags... IDPA.
No cover, no concealment, run and gun between fault lines, lots mags... USPSA

looks like the results were posted to the USPSA website so i'm guessing they had it listed wrong?

I carried 4, the most I saw being carried was 5.

I had a total of 130 penalty points. it took my overall match percentage from a 67.8546 to a 48.466. My overall hits and speed were ok for my 1st time. I know what I need to work on now.

Your reloads and movement have room for alot of improvement. Don't look at your mag pouches, just sweep your hand, keep your head up and your gun in front of you so you can see the magwell. Google Travis Tomasie reload. Movement doesn't have to be so fast, but it has to be smooth. Check out BrianEnos.com forums for all kinda of competition stuff. Your best bet is to take shooting lessons from a local USPSA Grand Master and get on your way. That famous wheelgun shooter/3gun National champion lives in LA.
