She is the initiator on a lot of drills at home and I often have to postpone my chores to assist her in her training. That night, she didn't hit every shot, but every target did get at least 1 round to it. I wanted her focus on procedures and safety more so than accuracy for her first time. No safety calls, No Procedurals calls..... and each target got tagged. I was happy with that.

She was invited back to shoot whenever she wants due to her safe gun handling, procedures, and knowledge of her gun.

Yup, no reason not to start them early.

At the Area7 Championship held just a few weeks ago I had the pleasure of seeing an 8 yr old boy shoot an open gun during the match. He needed helper steps to shoot through some ports, but he handled his gun safely and he was a good shooter. I talked to his father and he told me that he was shooting an open gun, with dads help, when he was 4. An 11 year old... Why not?

"Gun Safety" is education. Remove the mystique of the Call Of Duty 'bs' that kids have in their minds. That MP9c she was shooting was a police trade-in gun, hence the mag safety. Just filmed her doing the gunsmithing to remove that dang thing - since it is still IDPA legal to do so.

She shoots it, she has to clean it, and now she gunsmith's it too. Ordered her some HiVis LiteWave sights today, so she will have to put those on herself too.

Congrats on an awsome daughter, and excellent parenting skills, Dad!
