My Agency is thinking of switching to M&P40

This is a discussion on My Agency is thinking of switching to M&P40 within the Law Enforcement forums, part of the Armory category; We've been carrying the P226 since I started in 2000. We carried the traditional DA/SA blued models with no rails up until 2006. We then ...

We've been carrying the P226 since I started in 2000. We carried the traditional DA/SA blued models with no rails up until 2006. We then switched to the two tone P226 .40 with rail and nite sights. The quality differences between the newer Sigs and the old ones is shocking. The one I was issued has the worst tooling marks I've ever seen on a pistol. Between the cocking serrations, the rail and the breech face, the tooling marks are shameful for a gun that sells for as much as the Sig. Also they are not very user friendly to folks with smallish hands and they are d**n heavy when carried over a period of time. The DA/SA trigger SUCKS!!! Everyone was pushing for a change in sidearms and thankfully we have a boss who listened.

I've been hearing that a lot lately. In my own experience, I have seen several Sigs which were absolutely trash looking (brand new). But my 220R and relatively recently purchased 1911 Tac Ops have been of great quality.

The worse thing about Sigs is thier triggers. Followed by finish (chips way too easily). I added the SRT (short reset trigger) to mine and love it now. The DA still sucks though.

I still wouldn't go as far as to say Sigs were great pre 2005, but are all garbage now. They seam to put out bad batches here and there a lot more often than ever before. But, I still run across some nice ones in the local LE shop.

This seems like the appropriate thread to ask this question. My agency ordered 48 S&W's over 10 weeks ago. Every time we speak with the distributor about a time line for delivery we get nothing but chin music . How long does it take S&W to deliver?

With the issues Glock is having at this point with their Gen 4's that wouldn't be a persuasive argument. I did send an email last week to the Regional S&W rep to see about getting a time line. NO response...

Add to this the fact of tornado's in Springfield MASS and I can see a long wait. Its been 11 weeks now so I'm thinking it won't be til July or August, which IMHO, is not satisfactory.

Good Luck with your new MP. We have been useing MP40 since 07. We are happy.

KeeFus-- try calling your rep, or email all the reps espically the director. One of them will respond. Our rep is quick to reply. Our old rep 'not so much' if at all. So I understand, with our old rep the gang email worked.

If you are able to say on here, what price is S&W giving your department for each individual gun?

48 guns seams like a relatively low number to have to go through this hassle (Maybe that's why they're not giving it all thier attention).

You could have almost bought them online from a vendor and been done with it.
