Help with a waiver

So I have been at my department for a year, but they have a policy where for your probation period you are only allowed to carry a .40 cal. I however got a .45 M&P that I want to carry. So I can have a waiver with a good reason any experianced guys have any advice what to put? I feel like I can manage the recoil better and get back on target faster with the 45 dont get me wrong I love my glcok 22 and its never let me down but its time to upgrade.

is it just something in writing? i assume you will need to qualify with it also. just tell them you prefer the larger caliber and give examples of other agencies that use your gun. then you best qualify better with that 45, or it might be a waste of time.

I would also add in that you already own the gun and it is more economical for you to use the 45 as opposed to the 40 and that you don't own a 40 if that is the case.

How big is your department? There might be an ammo issue, as well. If the department issued arm is .40, will they still supply .45 ammo?

No side arm is issued we have to furnish our own. As far as ammo goes for our range practice we have to usually supply our own ammo.
