Question for LEOs (ADVICE)

If I have posted in the wrong place, I apologize.

I'm 32. Have been interested in LE for as long I can remember. Father was LEO when I was younger. Both parents are former military. I ended up pursuing my mechanical interests in cars and vintage motorcycles through the years after being told repeatedly I didn't want to be a cop by friends and family. I guess I allowed that to be enough to deter me.

The here and now... I am attending college again. I have registered for classes to become LEO. I really want this to pan out.

Concerns.... My age. Checkered past, but no felonies.

I'm concerned these things will make it difficult to find work assuming I do well in classes and academy of course.

Thanks for reading. I appreciate your thoughts.

As long as you are in good shape to get thru the academy, age shouldn't be a problem.

Don't lie about your past and be willing to show what you learned from it.

If you have a long enough of a gap between the dumb stuff and its become a growing experience instead of "the glory years" its not a bad thing.

I think it would be best if you contacted the local LE agencies in the area where you want to work. Some might have a residency requirement. Each of them will more than likely have different age restrictions, education, past history & even openings for PO positions. You might have to have a certain amount of college credits - maybe you'd need an associates degree in Criminal Justice & then there's a possible attendance in an academy. The trouble with some of those requirements is you might not meet the age limit after you complete them.
