Washington State LEOSA Question

Have any of you WA LEO's or RELEO's seen the LEOSA FAQ on the CJTC's website, in particular under the subheading "Now that I have my LEOSA Certification:" one of the questions is:

"What am I supposed to do if I have a LEOSA Certificate and am stopped by a law enforcement officer while I’m carrying a concealed firearm? "

And they answer with:

"You must immediately disclose to the officer that you are certified under LEOSA and are carrying a concealed firearm."

I know of no Washington State requirement to immediately inform. Do any of you know of an RCW or section of LEOSA that requires this? Or could they just be referring to LEOSA carry in a state which does have the requirement to inform?

Your thoughts?

Are you currently commissioned and employed by an employer on a full-time, fully compensated basis to enforce the criminal laws of the state of Washington generally?

I would suggest "disclose to the officer that you are certified under LEOSA and are carrying a concealed firearm."

Why...... he has no idea who you are, yet . How would you feel when you are on the Police force and somebody surprises you with a concealed gun?

I am currently certified under LEOSA and have been for 6+ years. Today I was nosing around the CJTC's (Criminal Justice Training Commission) website and saw for the first time this FAQ section and took notice of the question, and when I saw their answer I was a bit confused (doesn't take much nowadays ) because if there was/is such a requirement/law to disclose I never knew about it in my 33 years as a WA LEO!

The question was not asking for advice as to whether to inform or not inform the LEO, I'm questioning the CJTC's response to their FAQ on their website. Because as far as I know there is no such WA state requirement and for the 33 years in which I was a WA LEO I didn't know of such a requirement as the CJTC FAQ seems to imply there is.

Under RCW 9.41.060 if one does not meet any of the exceptions, as far as vehicle carry is concerned a WA CPL is required to carry loaded in a vehicle certified or not.

Thumbs up UPDATE

I emailed the CJTC in regards to the answer of the FAQ and they have now corrected their website.

Here is the email I received back.

"Thank you for noticing this section of our question & answer page. We will make an edit to this right away as there is no requirement to disclose, provide, or announce carrying of a concealed firearm when pulled over, unless the officer has “demanded” you display your CPL or LEOSA per RCW 9.41.050 1(b).

We took responses to LEOSA from other states and the feds over the past few years and we missed the response on this one. Thank you again for catching this and we will fix it post haste."
