Handgun:

Winchester Ranger SXT in 9mm, .40SW and .45ACP;

Shotgun:

Federal LE132 00Buck and FS127 slug, though we are going to switch to Brenneke Rottweil slugs based on vehicle and other issues;

Patrol Carbine / Rifle:

Hornady 5.56mm 60gr TAP and Winchester Ranger 64gr JSP

7.62mm is a Hornady load, but I can't recall the specifics as I don't have a need for it.

Here (very near to St. Louis) we use Corbon +P ammo in our Sig 226. It's an amazing round!

Is this a genuine municipal PD issuing Corbon ammunition? How many sworn officers in the department?

As for the fellas shooting .45 and 9mm I'm not quite sure what grain but, it's all Federal.

The FBI was issuing .40 Speer 165gr Gold Dot HP until recently. It's still authorized, but the new contract is for Winchester Ranger Bonded 180gr JHP (Q4355). 9mm is Speer 147gr GDHP and .45 is Remington Golden Sabre 230gr JHP.

I find it exceptionally hard to believe that any LE department would "issue" a beautique ammunition like Corbon. I don't see how Corbon could ever compete with the pricing necessary to win a government RFP/RFQ.

I will declare Shenanigans on this one.

Cor-Bon's website says they've been selling to LE for over 20 years and they have a section specifically dedicated to it....which would seem to be a lot of effort if they aren't really getting contracts.

Actually, I believe Winchester has the contract for both 9mm (RA9B) and .40S&W (Q4355).

Could be...I'm more at the user end of the system and nobody has mentioned a replacement for our 9, but it's possible.

I haven't seen any service (JHP) Win 9mm, in our recent shipments, but ammo is months and months behind for us, like everyone else. All of what we have on hand is Speer 147gr GDHP (53619). The 9mm practice ammo we have is Win RA9124N, so maybe they decided to streamline and go with Win for both. When I was at Quantico a few months ago they only talked about the .40 contract, but it could be that the 9 contract/eval wasn't finalized at the time. They did say they were going to start a similar evaluation for .45acp since the Q4355 surpassed the current .45 230gr Rem Golden Saber in testing...although they expected that to take a while. R,

As you said, could be. I believe it will come in as Q4364 (don't understand why the FBI feels their own product numbers are necessary) as that's how it's listed on the FBI Ammunition Test Summary that I'm looking at (dated 1/30/2008).

Interesting....I'll have to send an e-mail to one of my buddies tomorrow and get the skinny. I do know that the Q4355 was named that before we even tested it, so I'm not so sure that the Q4364 was a change for the Bu or not.

At the very least you can feel good that you have a copy of the test summary and I don't (have to ask for that in the e-mail too!). R,

A little further research on my part and I would have found that Q4364 was the original product number, before Winchester started moving to the Ranger (RA) numbers.
