Where Has All Of The 22LR Gone?

A few weeks back I needed a box of 22lr. I was in Wally World and was in a habit of shooting Winchester 333 hollow points. They have been working well and pretty accurate for a bulk box bullet. Checked behind the counter, no 22lr of any kind, just a few boxes of shorts.

This weekend, I was out with Dad and he needed a box. The gunshow had some Aquila solids, but nothing else. Then the search was on, we both needed some. Local hardware stores, gunshops, Wally, farm stores all out. I did find some Dale Earnhart or some Nascar commemorative box of Mini Mags today for $36 for 325 rounds and passed.

Why the run on 22lr again? This has been going on since before the Newtown shooting. Or is this some kind of localized crap?

2 wally worlds were completely out since at least 3 weeks ago. I started getting my .22 ammo from gander mtn. I picked up an ammo box with 900 stingers for $115. Of course, that was 2 weeks ago too. Good luck on your search.

Not sure where it went but I am glad I got in the habit of buying two boxes and shooting one years ago.

Been doing that for years. I'm sitting high and dry. They have a 3 box limit now. I get 3 (100 count)CCI Mini Mags and shoot only 50. So I'm still ahead ...so far.

There's still some left locally where I live. I picked up a 500ct box of the Blazer stuff today. Should take awhile to use since all I have for .22LR is a single shot bolt action Savage Arms rifle, and some cheese bag chrome pocket pistol with a 6 round magazine that my wife got for free somewhere.

I really need to get a good, modern semi-auto .22LR pistol, a 10/22, and an .22LR AR type rifle, but I'm saving for a house. I may break down anyway in a few weeks, as I will be completely out of 9mm range ammo and there's no more to be had in town.
