1 caliber or multiple

This is a discussion on 1 caliber or multiple within the MP Ammunition forums, part of the Smith & Wesson MP Forum category; I prefer one caliber but do have a selection. However, I mostly only shoot one caliber - the others were just impulse buys....

I use 9mm and .38 special. On the days that I need to cut acres of grass in Florida I carry the .38 with bird shot and hollow point combination in case of snakes. The rest of the time I carry 9mm.

I have multiple calibers. If I only had 2 or 3 handguns, then it might make sense to commonize. However, handguns vary so widely in function and design, I like to try many of them. I enjoy shooting revolvers, 1911's, striker fired pistols, etc.. That pretty much dictates multiple calibers.

I try to have a pistol and carbine for ever caliber I shoot. Right now that is:

.22
9mm
.45

I don't have a .45 carbine yet. Haven't found the right one. It might wind up being an exception.

However, I am thinking about adding .40 to the mix. In case of an ammo shortage it might be easier to find .40 cal than 9mm at some point. Looking at getting an M&P 40 and maybe a Kel-Tec Sub 2000 in .40 as my carbine to go with it.

The Beretta carbine is the CX4 storm. I have one in 9mm that takes the 30 round Beretta 92 mags. It's an absolute dream. Every time one of my friends shoots it for the first time, they go out and buy one. LOL

We reload, but since Im on such a tight budget we focus on ONE caliber, .40 If I were made of money Id have lots of toys and supplies, but... thats not the case.

For handguns , we are at two calibers only....9mm for me & 380 for her, and that's it.

I've given some thought to consolidating my caliber choices. Right now I have: .380acp, 9mm, .45acp, 7.62x39, 7.62x51r, 5.56/.223, and 12ga. However, I know that if I get rid of one, I'll somehow justify it to get another...

I try to limit the number of calibers I shoot, however I have 3 40's, 1 9mm plus conversion barrels for .357 Sig. and .22LR, of course. I also have a whack of .45ACP not to mention .357 and .44 Magnum.

Yeah, not so limited...but it could be worse.

I actually faced a similar quandary recently. I had a .380, .40, and .45. I transferred the .380 to my dad and then decided to go with 9mm for summer carry. Got rid of the .40 not because I needed the money, but rather felt it was unnecessary to maintain the stock of ammo for these different firearms. So now I am down to 2 types of ammo...hopefully should save me a few bucks at the end of the day as the stock grows.

Sorry, I can't follow directions. Pistols only: .380, 9mm, .45. I hope to add a .40 or .357/.38 soon though.

I like that TNW carbine, but don't want to have to use Glock magazines when I'm carrying S&W magazines for my M&P. Guess I'll have to get a Sub2000.

SR22
M&P shield 9mm
M&P 9C
XDM 3.8C .45
It's nice to have variety
I used to have a FS M&P .40 as well but for the life of me
I could not shoot it with any consistent accuracy, so I went .45 instead.
Big improvement
