380 XTP Ammo Problems

Ammoquest determined that the 380 XTPs from several brands met the FBI standards for penetration/expansion. The slower brands penetrating best. I've kinda come to the conclusion though that in the real world the slower brands don't have enough kick to properly cycle the BG 380 100% of the time. Example, HPR's XTPs at 789 fps give me several cycle errors per box of 50. Whereas Hornady's own "Customs" at 851 fps have given me no cycle failures yet. Calculations for these indicate the Customs at 145 foot pounds vs 124 for the HPRs. Does this make sense?

Also, as far as I can tell Hornady's American Gunner 380 XTPs are pretty much identical to their Customs....both say 1000 fps on the box.

Hornady replied to an email.....they say the American Gunner & Custom lines are made to the same specs.

Well, in case anyone is interested.....I've fired 50 of the Custom 380 xtps and 50 of the American Gunner 380 xtps thru my Bodyguard......ZERO FAILURES to cycle.

I've also had good results with the American Gunner.I'm really having fun with the BG380.I just picked another up for my wife from my local shop which was having a S&W days sale. They had new BG380's for $289 couldn't pass on it.
