The XTP is a Hornady bullet. Federal has the HST, including the 147gr 9mm +P HST.

The Lucky Gunner Labs did a Self-Defense Ammunition Test, including the 9mm. The test gun was a M&P 9c, with a 3" barrel, as opposed to the Shield's 3.1" barrel. They didn't test the 147gr +P, but they did test the standard pressure and it did quite well.

Shooting the Bull did the Ammo Quest series, in which he did test the 147gr +P, through a 3" barrel. His results are outstanding.

Judging from these tests, I'd say it should be perfect as possible with today's mass production ammunition.

While the AR15.com test is more in depth, it closely follows the Lucky Gunner Labs and Shooting the Bull tests. They are generally the same in the 9mm and .380 tests in testing in applicable tests.

If these three test generally bear out the same reliable results, then it should be pretty reliable. With results this comparable, if a round is tested by one but not one or both of the others, it most likely will be similar if it were to be tested by the other.

I now carry the Federal 147 grain +P HST in my Shield, compact and 5" Pro. In my Pro, I did a 25 yard benchrest test and it knocked the center out of the bullseye. Of course, I have a new Apex barrel in too. The accuracy is outstanding.

I'm leaning toward the Winchester Train & Defend in the near future. Mostly because I like my target ammo to be as close as possible to my defensive ammo. But the defend version seems to perform pretty well.

ammo

I lean towards the standard because I am not sure the +p would open fast enough cause the hornady is a very hard bullet.
