Welcome to the forum!
Considering the fact that pistols are under-powered to begin with, the .380 auto is severely under-powered. Using JHP's will take away from your already-lacking penetration. FMJ would be the way to go to ensure decent penetration, but now you've lost the possibility of bullet expansion and the subsequent increase in tissue damage.
No disrespect but if you want my honest opinion, you should return the 380 and pick up a 9mm

Welcome to our little corner of the net!
For research on your ammo, there are several tacked threads in the Ammunition Forum, lots to read there.
In addition a good tester of ammo on YouTube has an unusual channel name: ShootingTheBull410 Funny name but lots of good information

I use Federal Premium Hydra Shok in mine. PPU FMJ for range. I love this little gun. Maybe I'm nuts but I have a blast shooting the BG at the range. As far as an EDC with a .380, it's better than nuttin! I asked Mas Ayoob about the .380, and that was his exact assessment.
Pretty sure that OP, like me...carries more firepower when he can get away with it.
