FMJ for ported barrels
I picked up some ammo the other day for my PC Shield .40 and noticed a warning on the back of the box stating not for use in a ported or compensated barrel. They were Blazer Brass FMJ. A bit of research revealed the likely cause was the thin plating used on the projectile that could shear in the ports. My question is this: what ammo would you recommend for general practice/range use for a ported barrel? I have a ton of American Eagle but it appears that they are plated lead and not truly gilded/jacketed. WWB and Aquila are readily available but are they true FMJ? Thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, plated boolits do shear a very small amount while going past the port hole(s), but certainly not by very much. There is nothing to worry about, with exception to cheap chinese knock-off guns/barrels with porting. I`ve seen garbage ported guns that had terrible burr`s left inside the barrel after porting. All i shoot is plated boolits, and they DO work perfectly fine in ALL my own ported guns. Just make sure you wear eye protection at all times...goes without sayin.
