40C wont print a pattern

I picked up a 40C and have run a couple of hundred rounds through it. After reading about how bad the M&P trigger is out of the box I was pleasantly suprised at how good this one feels. The first thing I noticed when I made it to the range was that out of the first several mags the gun would begin to print a pattern but by the end of each mag the target always had 3 or 4 flyers. When I say flyers I mean like 5 " out of the pattern. I then benched it with a couple of more mags and had the same results (3 or 4 flyers). I then asked a couple of other capable shooters to try and print a pattern with my gun and both had similar experiences (3 or 4 flyers in every magazine). Has anyone personally had (or heard of anyone else having) this happen. At this point due to the fact that 3 different shooters are experancing the exact same thing that the fault probably lies with the gun, but I would like to hear from others on this before I send it back to S&W.

Did you try different ammo? Maybe the ammo you was using has something to do with it. Just my .02

Mike Hmmmm..... Doesn't sound right, all three shooters had the same issue? Maybe it has something to do with possible mag drop? If the rest of the shooters had the same results, than I'd have to say it may be the firearm. However, this is against my beliefs as it is never the gun and always the shooter :0)

Send it back to S&W with a test target and I'm sure if it's the firearm they will reverse the problem.

If you would allow me?

There is a possibility that, for one reason or another, that your M&P was not returning fully into battery. The gun will fire, or at least MY M&P45 will, fire when slightly out of battery. At this time the bbl is as loose as a goose.

Do a REALLY thorough cleaning, re-lube it, and see if when cocked [1/2 cocked? they call it a DA] and you slowly let the slide go to battery, if there is a hitch in the movement.

It does seem that perhaps it is not making it completely into battery at times, but not because it needs a cleaning. Before the first time it went to the range I did (as instructed) give it a through cleaning (field strip, solvent worked all areas of slide and frame with a brush, rinse with hot water, throughly dry, lubrucate at all 7 points). This same type of cleaning took place as well between all 3 shooters. While manipulating the slide I have not noticed any abnormalities with the slide movement.

Take a single box of ammo. Slowly shoot a magazine ensuring the slide is returning fully to battery even if you have to give it a push. Keep track of the brass. Check the indentation on the primer, they should be essentially similar and in the smae place.

Try to reproduce your problem with normal shooting, also keeping track of the brass. If you are having an issue with it being out of battery, you will find the firing pin mark moving around rather than being consistant.

Raz O, Thanks for the info. I am familiar with how to trouble shoot the gun not going into battery, but at this point I have no interest in finding the cause. I am just trying to see if this is a common problem. As far as trouble shooting and fixing the gun....that will be up to S&W.
