Just picked up an M&P 45 compact as a carry option vs. my full size M&P 45. Didn't even realize Smith made a compact M&P 45 until I happened across one at a local gander mountain. Was looking for a compact 45 for concealed carry and this fit the bill.

Wanted an LE model, but settled for for what was available at a local shop. Had to chose between a standard model w/o thumb safety and night sights or a two tone w/ thumb safety and standard sights. I asked about having a thumb safety installed, but the dealer said smith would not do it. Figured it was fairly easy to have night sights installed, but obviously a little more expensive. Neither had the clip safety. Mixed feelings on that. I like the fact the gun can be made safe w/o a clip, especially if the wrong person gets their hands on it.

Went with the two tone. Needs a trigger job, but other than that I am impressed with what I've seen so far. It is very comparable to my S&W 457. Looks like the bore center line is a little lower than the 457. Hope to break it in and have the trigger done soon. Waiting to hear back from dan burwell to see what his schedule looks like.

Welcome to the site. Great info and people here. I Had a MP 45c, but I thought it was

to thick. All the 45 mags work in the C. A guy here sells adapters that will slip on FS 45

mags and fit the C. Good Luck

The S&W M&P .45 compact is a great little powerhouse. The width is really not that wide when compared to a Glock 36 .45 width of 1.13" to the M&P .45 of 1.2" ... and is also the same width as the M&P 9c ..... Plus, the "baby Glock .45" only has a 6 rd. magazine capacity compared to 8 rd. in the M&P .45, just for comparison...

Well, even though the one you didn't choose is the one I wish I'd bought, I think you made a great decision--based on the 1,500 rds or so I have thru mine so far. I like mine more each time I shoot it, and I'll bet you will, too. Yes, the triggers are just awful IMO, but cheap and easy to fix well enough for CCW. I think the size is just perfect, and wouldn't want anything smaller--that's why I bought it after a long search. I wasn't even considering a plastic gun, and even an alloy frame wasn't a consideration either. So, I think that says I was impressed. You got a keeper, IMO.
