Thumb safety

Sent my 45C back to S&W and they fixed the thumb safety. Very positive now, like my full size LE M&P 45 and my 9C. Turn around time was about a week and they threw in a free magazine. The description in the box simply said adjusted safety. Don't know if they changed anything out or not.

Also sent back a brand new 642 at the same time. The 642 was out of time from the factory and they turned it around in the same time. Unlike the 45C, they replaced a few parts. Good little pocket gun.

Wasn't positive at all and didn't take much pressure to engage/disengage. The safety could also be positioned half on/off. Safety either needs to be positively on or off, no in between and require a conscience effort to move. I'd engage the safety, holster it, and most of the time the safety would be off by the time I decided to unholster it. Had to watch not to accidentally flip it on when firing, it was that light. Not a good thing to have happen in a heated engagement. Law suit waiting to happen.

what was wrong with the safety?

I'm right handed. Typically the left thumb is straight with the bore axis with the finger pad touching the frame right below the slide disassembly lever. The right thumb is laying on top of the left, slightly curled down. It is under the safety.

Ultratec,

When you shoot your gun, do you keep your thumb on top of the safety as in the 1911 or do you swipe the safety down and shoot with your thumb curled under it?

I asked in another thread but no one answered.

Thanks

Thanks for your reply.

I just bought a MP9C and am trying to get the hang of it since I haven't had a gun with a safety since my days with the 1911 (20 years ago). I've been shooting with my right thumb on top of safety but it is a bit awkward and wanted your imput.

Again thanks

I shoot with my thumb resting on the safety lever. No real reason other than the fact that I find it comfortable and view it as though, if push comes to shove, I don't have to worry about kicking the safety on. If you practice with your thumb there, it feels abnormal anywhere else.

Theman,

Thanks for your reply.

As I said before, I just bought the gun and I'm trying to get aclimated with it.

My reasoning for shooting with the thumb on top of safety is to make sure every time I draw the weapon the safety gets dissengaged (nothing worst than to find yourself in a situation and find out too late that you forgot to take off the safety).
