| MY DREAM PISTOL...
Hello Everybody. I bought an M&P 9c about a year ago off of a friend that barely used it. Needed to replace my carry pistol. I immediately became bat sh*t crazy about this gun. So I sold a few weapons and decided to make my dream pistol out of it. I wanted to see what you guys thought, so here are some pics. I am new to the forum and glad to be a part of it, thanks so much. Took it to a great gunsmith (30+ years in business) in the Miami area and got the following done: -Asked for the full size barrel to be ordered. They machined and polished the top, installed a sleeve on the front and ported it for reduced recoil. -Had TruGlo TFO Night Sights installed. -Full trigger job reduced it to about 3-4 pounds. -Duracoat OD Green Paint Job -Bought two full size clips and xgrips to get 17+1 capacity. -S&W Micro 90 Tac Light on the way. Original barrel and clips can be installed quick to shrink back down to compact size. Shoots like a dream... |

Very nice! How are you liking the TFO's? I'm not sure if i totally dig the duracoat and the full size barrel looks different not bad just different. However the end of the barrel that is ported does look pretty cool, does it really make a difference with recoil? Every man his own as far as i'm concerned so i gotta give ya props for goin all out with the customization

Thanks bud. Does it make a difference? Honestly I am going to have to slap the old barrel in to test. I will admit, it was a bit cosmetic, but I love the look. I know I was able to reset on the target easier. THE TFO's ARE FANTASTIC! This is my everything weapon (nightstand, vehicle, carry, house...) so those TFOs are incredible at nighttime. As far as the DuraCoat, I am obsessed with the color green :-)

Nice i about bought a set of the TFO's but went with a ameriglo pro glo front sight paired with the stock rear novaks on my 9c. (love it) Still thinking of going for the TFO's on my FS9...... Let me know how you like the micro 90 light. i have been considering the crimson trace lightguard for my fs. |

Will do! Lightguard looks cool. TFOs are no contest for sure...they glow at night and during the day...awesome.

I had thought about doing that with a FS 9L or 9 PRO. But finding a couple inch longer barrel is the problem, not to mention cost of having a special one made. It's still on my back burner for now.

Not bad. I'm not convinced that a built up barrel cone is a great idea, and ports are a no no for SD, but it looks nice.

Thanks for the comments everybody. Today I took it to a range I love here in Central Florida and got to spend some quality time with it. I put about two hundred rounds through it and had five people shoot it, including a 20+ year law enforcement officer. Everyone loved it and said it turned out great. I am so happy with it. The trigger pull is so clean. I also did a test with the old barrel and can confidently say there is a noticeable difference with recoil. I am able to reset my sight picture much quicker. The TFOs steal the show though...they are incredible sights and much worth the money. I am curious though why ports are a no no for a SD gun??? That's definetly why I joined this forum....to learn!!! |

| Ports can blind the shooter at night or dark situations. You'll also need to be more aware of the blast those ports produce - keep it away from your face.

Not only could the increased flash mess with the low and no light vision of the operator but those TFOs will get dirty fast.

OK, thanks for the input on the ports. I'm going to keep the barrel in for now. I would like to practice at night, but don't know where I can do that. I will remember to keep the front clean (like I do the rest of the gun). I will also remember to keep the gun away from my face when firing it... |

I guarantee with a ported barrel you won't want to do any point shooting from draw. What is one going to do when seconds count, ask a bad guy to let you get into a stance first? point shooting from a draw - YouTube |

In a very close-quarters (arm's length) shooting, you will NOT be able to extend the gun to arm's length to shoot. The gun is drawn from the holster, the strong-side forearm is locked into the bottom of the ribcage, the the gun is "indexed" inward and upward, to get a center-of-mass hit on the adversary. The muzzle of the gun is very close to the shooter, just in front of the rib cage. A ported barrel WORKS by ejecting a portion of the gasses upward, effectively pushing the muzzle down. Along with these HOT gasses, come a good bit of unburnt (still burning) powder (due to a SHORT barrel). With a ported barrel, these burning powder particles are ejected straight up into the shooter's chin in retention... OUCH! There's not a LOT more flash from a ported barrel than from an un-ported barrel, and loads DESIGNED for short barreled guns are loaded with faster burning powder, which is designed to burn completely before leaving the barrel. So if you're shooting a ported gun, choose ammo designed for short-barreled guns. You're welcome, Jeff
