Folks, I have some news about the Hybrid development. Things are moving along with T&E, we have a great combination that is working better than before. For this combination however, we need to use a different spring in the system. I'm already in contact with a manufacturer and awaiting their response with figures. Please be assured that this delay will result in a far superior kit that you will be proud to own. I've tried this combination with different sorts of slides from a 5" Pro, a CORE with RMR and standard setups with outstanding results. I only want to put the best out to all if you, who have been so patiently waiting for this system to come out.

Sounds like they're trying to increase the price point by adding a recoil assembly to the dust cover extention, going from a $15 part (like others have done with Glock) to a $50 "system" with cover and superfluous recoil assembly. Capitalism in it's least efficient state.

I sure hope not!

That's reading an awful lot into Cole's comments.

I'm still looking forward to the conversion kit being available - I'm a big fan of the "CCO" concept.

M&P Hybrid Update: Talked to the spring company today and I will have a working proto in my hands in two weeks. I'm gonna beat that spring like it owes me money during testing and keep the Hybrid going! I know we are behind the timeline Stephen and I stated at Shot Show, however please believe that this improvement will make the hybrid shine! I've had numerous testers that tried both generations of prototypes say the newest gen is the more end user friendly as it is an easy shooter as well!

Does this mean that I HAVE to buy a new recoil spring? Will this part work with existing recoil springs?

It sounds like you're suggesting that they will be altering the space, or something that will MAKE us buy a whole new system, if we want to use the part. I hope that's not the case.

The factory recoil assembly should work fine, since the compact uses all the same internals as the f/s.

Oh, ok. My imagination ran wild and I thought they'd add material to the part, making a shorter guide rod necessary. I got all conspiratorial off of your post.

One last question, will I need a different spring, to use a compact with a L slide, in order to prevent malfunctions? Thanks.

If anyone has a 45c and a 45 full size (4.5" barrel) you can take the slide from the full-size and swap it onto the 45c frame. I have been running my M&P this way for 4 years now without any issues at all and it looks factory. I Conceal Carry it every day along with the M&P 45, 14 round magazines a back up mag.

Cole Partnerships and Training, LLC No worries, the spring proto is in the mail headed to me. Once I beat the hell out of it, we will know how much further out we are on it.

Shammy Are there any specific performance parameters you're concerned about

Cole Partnerships and Training, LLC Without going into detail, there was no way to get our hands on the extremely simple thing that we needed. I will saw that if S&W wasn't swamped on production, they would have been able to help us.

How is this hybrid project going to be different than simply swapping a full size slide on to a compact frame?

Is it just covering the recoil spring with an extended dust cover? Anything else?

I don't get why anyone would "chop" anything when a compact frame would accomplish basically the same result, albeit with a bit of visible Spring.

Looks like they've been testing it. I'm assuming the dust cover will be painted on the production unit.
