Tried to get a magazine extension from S&W

After reading how others got free magazine extensions for their M&P compact magazines, I sent a email to S&W requesting an extension for my 9c. I included my gun's serial #, etc. Below is the response from Don at S&W.

To me this is not very customer friendly. I guess I am just venting because I heard such great things about S&W's customer service but this form letter indicates otherwise. I don't mind buying one through midway USA but the shipping costs are ridiculous for an item that costs $1.35. For those of you who got the free magazine extension, did you say anything special or do anything in particular to get it shipped to you for nothing?

My first call to CS was not very fruitful. The individual I spoke with gave me a price for the extension and the cost of shipping. I told my story here and was told to call CS back. In all likelihood I would speak to someone different. I did call them back and the new CS rep simply asked for my mailing address along with how many extensions I would need. I got them about 5 or so days later, no charge no shipping cost. I really don't know why S&W doesn't just include an extra extended base plate in the box when you buy a compact. Give them a call, a couple of calls if need be till you get to the right CS rep.

I had mentioned the finger rest extension in an e mail to CS about getting a .357 barrel. He told me that barrels were unavailable at that time but he'd send me 2 extensions free of charge. It took about a month to get them but since they were free I didn't sweat it.

Since then I've seen some online (Ebay?) & as I recall they sell for under $3.

I called and ask for a couple extensions and a pinky butt plate. The guy ask for my address and said he would send me a butt plate free of charge but the extensions would be $14 and some change apiece plus shipping. Guess I need to call back and see if I can get the extensions.

One can't expect to or demand to get stuff for free, but it is nice when it happens.

I called back in early Dec to see if I could get a free extension. After being on hold for 20 min I got a hold of a customer service rep.

The reason I know I was on hold for 20 min is this...
S&W - he asked how could he help me?
I said I'd like a extension plate for a 12 round 9c
S&W - you waited on hold for 20 min for an extension plate?
I said yes, I can't find any 12r mags and I don't like the flat plate.
S&W - you gun people are crazy

I was like what? Then just laughed and blew it off. He asked for my mailing info and said they would mail it out. Also if I didn't see it with in a week to call back and my cell number would be my order number. Two weeks later I called back, was on hold for 20 min and then was told by another rep that they didn't have any in stock and that they would mail it when they get them in. I said OK, no one told me that the last call?

A week ago I received a envelope from S&W with a 10r extension! I called the next day...20 min later got a hold of a rep and told them they sent me a 10r extension but that I needed a 12r extension. The rep apologized and said he had one right in front of him and that he'd mail it out that day. 3 days later I had it.

It took about a month and it was free so I have no complaints!

Had a similar situation getting extended basepads for my 45c, called smith, was willing to pay, they told me no, they would send one it. Never received it.

A few months later I called again, they had no record of previous convo, said they'd old send one out, but if I wanted 2 I would have to pay. Asked the, to send me the one for free.

A few weeks later, I had 3 in my mailbox. Apparently (or allegedly) they switched plants or customer service systems, so some old stuff got lost in the shuffle.

Its a bit, ahem, bold to call and ask for free items because someone on the innanets got something for free. Broken/damaged and not your fault, by all means call and lay out your expectations for a satisfactory solutions.

I have 4 or 5 9c 12 rounders with the pinky extension basepad, wish I had 1 or 2 of the flat ones....

*wink*

Bumping this up to the top - I just picked up a 9c (had one, traded it, should've kept it, lesson learned) a few weeks ago. I emailed them about buying an extended basepad and they sent me an email saying the dropped one on a no-charge order and to expect it in 8-10 days.

Guess it depends on who you get when you contact them.
