I just received my M&P 22 compact suppressor-ready model.
The instructions say remove the thread adaptor prior to field stripping and the gun came with a tool included.
It also says to rotate the adapter counter clockwise.
NOW - - - - I tried as hard as I could and it wouldn't move. I went as hard as I thought but did not want to damage the gun.
NO Luck.
Called customer service and they said try harder.,
I BROKe the jaw of the tool and the adapter is still on.
Called CS again and they said they would send me a new wrench!

OK - - - The new wrench hasn't arrived as yet but the question still remains when removing the adapter the instructions say turn counter clockwise - - - but it doesn't specify which end your looking at .
Before I broke the wrench, I called CS and they told me that your looking at the adapter from the back of the gun or the chamber end. That is what I tried and applied enough pressure that the jaw on the wrench broke so I am asking here. Can someone that has gotten that adapter off tell me for sure, turn it counterclockwise but from witch end.
I know its lefty loosen but it all depends on whether you are looking at the gun from the muzzle end or the chamber end.

You were told completely wrong. Threaded muzzle devices (flash hiders, muzzle brakes, suppressors and thread protectors) are all standard right hand threaded and are removed by turning counter clockwise looking FROM THE MUZZLE END. It's just like a jar lid, you turn it counter clockwise looking at the top.

I can't believe the CS person could have made that mistake!!

:sick:I am very disappointed in S&W customer service!!!!!
After getting very good service from them with my Shield, I didn't hesitate to buy the compact 22 (suppressor ready) even though I have no use for the suppressor attachment, as I have no intention of using a suppressor. IT is just that, that is all that was available at the time.
On Monday, May 5 ,I tooke delivery of one.
My first step ,as always was to field strip and clean before heading to the range but I could not get the attachment off. The instructions said turn counter clockwise, but do not indicate if that is looking from the front ore the rear of the gun, so I contacted CS and they said looking from the rear. When I could not budge the thing, I called again and was told the second time ,"from the REAR", and with that I broke the wrench!!!!!
CS said they would put a new wrench in an envelope and get it out to me. That was Monday, and here it is Saturday and still no wrench. Looks like, if I am going to shoot my new gun, it will have to be without cleaning.:no:sick::crybaby:

I had the same problem and a little extra oomph and muscle did take off the adapter... but I thought I was going to break the adapter or the wrench taking it off. So I took it off to inspect the gun prior to cleaning. I put it back on and took it to the range (awesome gun to shoot BTW), and then when I got home I tried to remove it again to clean the gun. This time, SNAP! the wrench broke. I too am waiting for my new wrench to come in the mail, but I just submitted the request today (Friday) so don't know how long it will take.

On a side note, does anyone know where I can get a hold of the standard thread protector that comes on the non-suppressor ready model? I don't want to have to go through this every time I don't use a suppressor and want to clean the gun.

WHOOOOOOPEEEEEE !!!!!
A NEW WRENCH ARRIVED THIS AFETRNOON MADE OUT OF WHAT WOULD APPEAR A MUCH STRONGER METAL THAN THE ORIGINAL WHICH LOOKED LIKE pot metal!
It was shipped on the 19th from an address in PADUAHK KY. which makes me think it may be from the manufacturer directly.
Anyway, with a lot of heat from a hair dryer, and all the strength I could muster, it came loose.
Case closed!!!!!
Now to find a thread protector cap like is on the standard barrel.
Anyone know of a source?????

I was able to get S&W to send a regular barrel thread protector FINALLY . I could NOT find any after marker ones to buy. Good luck with CS. I must have badgered them enough so they sent the thread protector to get rid of me! (Actually; I got two of them in separate mailings but I already mailed my second one away this morning to another member here or I'd hook you up).

To clean it with the suppressor thread protector on it: Just rotate the takedown lever as if you were going to remove the barrel. Pull back and up and just tilt the barrel up off the frame to get to the ramp and access the chamber and barrel from the muzzle end to clean it with a rod from the chamber end. In other words, the barrel will not come all the way of like this, but you can lift it up enough to be able to clean the pistol anyway.

Lucky You!!!!!
I talked to them yesterday and while the guy was very nice the conclusion was that the part had been assigned a part number, but not a price! This meant they were not available as yet!
I guess I will just keep calling and as happened with the wrench, someone will finally decide to send me one and I can stop bothering them!

IT worked!!!!!
Called today, and a VERY NICE young man listened to my inquiry, and then ask why I need the thread protector and I explained that I had the Suppressor ready and wasn't going to use a suppressor and he paused for a moment, then ask for My Name and address and said to expect it in 5 to 7 days. No charge!!!!
Can't get any better than that!!!

That was in June.

Today, there was a package delivered from S&W with a thread protector for the suppressor attachment. Not only was their 5 to 7 days more like months, I got the wrong part

I wanted a thread protector for the barrel after the suppressor attachment was removed.

I guess the best thing to do is just live with the suppressor attachment, even though I have no use for a suppressor!

I have had success on a few (either with removing the flush cap as well as the 'suppressor ready' adapter) just by using a small amount of heat. Propane torch for a few seconds ONLY on the thread end.

I ended up replacing the S&W stock adapters with EWK adapters as they have an internal 1/4" hex for regular removal/install.

I broke one S&W wrench trying to remove one of the suppressor ready adapters. Had to use heat, S&W replaced the wrench (with the same stamped steel/hardened part).

Check out the EWK versions for the 22 compact...

I was able to get a Thread Protector for after you are able to remove the suppressor adapter.
Then you should be able to remove the slide.
S&W sent it for free.
Part # 429020000
You can buy the model with adapter and when not using suppressor, just put on this part.
