I just purchased a new 9c and didn't notice the gouge when initially inspecting it at the store, I still can't believe I miss it. I took it home cleaned it up, and then I noticed it. I decided to take it to the range to see how it shoots because I know that question will be asked. It shoots fine but the trigger is extremely gritty, it felt a little better after 250 rounds, still not close to breaking it in but it's a start.
It's definitely the worst trigger out of my 3 M&Ps. I know S&W will fix it, but my question is how much will the trigger improve if it's fixed, and is it worth sending it in. I'm sure down the road I'll replace with some apex parts, but I don't wanna do that until I have a lot more rounds through it and see how the trigger breaks in. I apologize if the pics are not that great.
That's not where the grittyness occurs, it's back by the striker block. Replacing that part with another factory part won't likely improve the trigger any, so in my opinion it's not worth sending it to S&W. Others will ramble on about wanting their new gun, car, shirt, or whatever to be pristine on arrival, but a combat pistol is just a tool, so appearance is not nearly as important as function.
The Apex striker block (USB) will take the grittiness out of the trigger pull. What disturbs me about the sear is how did that part make into the pistol. I doubt the defect will effect the reliability of your pistol, but to put that part in a pistol with a cosmetic defect that is immediately noticeable is beyond me. So now this picture is on the web for potential S&W buyers to see and form an opinion on the quality of the pistol and QC at S&W.
If you're talking about that spot on the sear, I don't think that will affect the feel or function at all. The trigger bar contacts the underside of the sear, and the striker contacts the rear portion. I don't think anything interacts with that part of the sear...unless I'm missing something...
Thank you all for the replies. I didn't think it was the cause of the grittiness, but I just wanted to double check. I'm definitely not gonna get it replaced then, I know a mass produced gun is gonna have some slip ups missed before they leave the factory. I don't mind a little beauty scar at all, however, I only wish I was the one giving the scars to it. [emoji3]
If we're talking about the dent in the top of the sear, I've inquired about it before and was told it's a hardness test mark.
It also does not ride the underside of the slide and has zero affect on trigger pull.
2 out of 3 of my M&P's have that mark.
If I missed something and ya'll are talking about something else, I'll just chew on my foot
