Vortex Red Dot which model ?

I have a M&P 40 Compact for my EDC , and I was thinking about adding a Vortex red dot , but I don't know what model would be best for an EDC gun . (Razor , Viper , or Venom ) Anyone know first hand what model would be best for EDC ?

TIA

I don't have any experience with Vortex red dots, the only input on those is that I have a Vortex Venom red dot on order, its due in tomorrow. I've got several Vortex rifle scopes and am extremely pleased with them, a couple of Vortex Viper 30mm 6.5-20x and a couple of Vortex Diamondbacks.

As far as red dots on a pistol, I have a 9mm CORE with a Burris FastFire III and a Ruger 22/45 with a Bushnell TRS-25 red dot, very satisfied with both. I'm planning on buying one of the new S&W Victory 22 for the Vortex Venom red dot.

John , thank you very much for your help . Do you think there is much difference between the Burris Fast Fire III , and the Vortex Venom ? I know , from what I have read Vortex has a great warranty .

To me they look very similar, both have top access to their batteries, which is important to me, you don't have to remove it to replace the battery. I've been very satisfied with my scopes from them, and its slightly cheaper than the Burris, I figured I'd give it a try.

I also have a Vortex Venom on order that's going on a Ruger 22/45 Lite. My decision came down to the Fastfire III and the Venom, and I decided on the Venom. There are lot's of good reviews of the Fastfire, but in the end I feel good about dealing with Vortex and their warranty. In fairness, Burris may be very good also, I've just never had a Burris product. I've got several Vortex scopes, and their customer service is great to deal with. When I was shopping for my first Vortex scope, I called customer service in an effort to locate one close to me so I could take a look at it. Vortex shipped the scopes I was interested in to the closest dealer to me so I could look them over. Vortex was going to pay the return shipping from the dealer to Vortex after I had taken a look, although that turned out to be unnecessary. I was impressed with their customer service to say the least. Hopefully the Venom will be as impressive.

I have the venom mounted on my M&P9 c.o.r.e. I've shot just about 1,000 rds with and both the gun and the red dot have been flawless. For older eyes these sights are a god send.

It was my experience with the Bushnell TRS-25 on my Ruger 22/45 that prompted me to go ahead and get my 9mm CORE, and the FastFire III sits much lower than a rail mounted sight like the TRS-25.

I used to laugh at the guys who would blame their bifocals for some of their accuracy problems, but when I got bifocals myself I found out they were telling the truth! Red dots on pistols are definitely a Godsend for us older folks.

Got my Vortex Venom a few minutes ago and upon reviewing the paperwork I find one significant advantage to the Vortex over the Burris. The Burris has a one year warranty, the Venom is warranted for life, I'm surprised since most electronic items have a shorter warranty than the normal optics warranty, which is what the Burris has, while the Venom has the same as their optics. One other observation, on the automatic setting, the Vortex Venom dot is quite a bit brighter than the Burris, how that fares when we are actually shooting will tell when we actually get decent weather so I can go to the range.

First 3 photos are the Burris Fastfire III, second 3 photos are the Vortex Venom.

John, my Venom was delivered a short while ago also, but I haven't had a chance to take it out of the box. I don't know if this is correct or not, but on another forum a poster wrote that the Fastfire only had a one year warranty. Another poster corrected him by indicating that Burris has recently updated the Fastfire warranty to their "forever warranty". The original poster said he went to the Burris website and verified that this is correct, the Fastfires do now have a lifetime warranty. I didn't check it myself, just repeating what I read.

Thanks for the photo comparison between the two sights.

I have a Vortex razor mounted on an M&P full size 9mm slide. I had this slide milled out specifically for the Vortex before the M&P Core came out. I've probably put around 1,500 rounds through my gun with this combo and really like it. I had suppressor sights installed as well.

I checked their website and downloaded the updated user guide dated Oct. 29, 2015. In that new user guide it does say that it has their forever warranty, hopefully that is retroactive if I ever have a problem, mine is just a month or two past the one year warranty period in my user guide.

In the same thread I mentioned, a poster said he had a Fastfire fail after the one year warranty was up, and Burris wouldn't do anything for him. But if you have a problem with your Fastfire, it never hurts to see what they will do.

I have temporarily mounted my Venom on the Ruger 22/45 Lite this evening, and I'm liking it so far. I used the Burris dovetail mount to get it as low as possible, and it fits great. Next step is some blue loctite, and then to the range.
