9C Slide Whip???

Sorry about the explanation but its the only way I can describe it. I have a 9C, shield , and the Bodyguard M&P's. The 9C has about 2500 rounds through it and the last two times at the range I had this weird slide whip/lag felft during recoil. Almost as if the slide returned a little slower than normal giving the gun a whipping feeling during recoil. Both times broke the gun down and inspected it and found nothing. I break down, clean and lube the gun after every range trip just because I like too so its not running dry or dirty. Just wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this? Spring maybe???

May be the recoil spring. There is a lot of stress on that spring, especially in pistols with shorter barrels and slides. At 2500 rounds it may be starting to wear out.

Easy and cheap enough to replace - might as well give it a try and see if that makes a difference.

I've never experienced any such thing in any of mine; and my first M&P9 was bought in '07, has had many countless thousands of rounds through it, and is still on it's original recoil spring.

I believe that the 9c (I have one of those, too) uses the same recoil spring.

The M&P9 and 9c use different recoil spring assemblies. The 9c is shorter.

My guess would also be try a new recoil spring. That will probably fix her right up.

What kind of ammo/bullets are you using? When I use certain hollow points with my 9c they can hang up and slow down on the feed ramp. My full size doesn't have the issue.

That would be my first question, too, what was the ammo? I had a similar issue with some federal ammo. The slide made more of a thump. I contacted S&W and they sent me a new spring free of charge, but I changed ammo and never put the new spring in. It's been fine since. I am convinced it was a bad batch of ammo because the gun was extremely dirty too.
