Full Size Pistols vs. Compact Pistols

Hey Guys,

I'm brand new and have a question..I'm sure I will have many more but this is my first. When I'm looking at forums to view, I see the titles "compact" and "full size" pistols. What is the break point between compact and full size as far as determining what the post is concerning?? Or, am I totally misinterpreting the titles.?? I thought that these titles were about the pistols, etc. that fell into these catagories but it kinda does not look like that. If I am way off track you won't hurt my feelings a bit by getting me back on. Thanks in advance.

It's largely the manufacturer's designation. For M&P pistols, Smith uses a "c" suffix to the model name, e.g. M&P9 vs. M&P9c. In the .45 line, you will also hear about mid-size.

Depending on the manufacturer there are full size, compact & subcompact models. In the M&P line there's the M&P40 (or 9), M&P 40C & Shield, which is labeled a subcompact. There's usually very little difference in actual size but my M&P 40C conceals easier with its slightly shorter barrel & shorter grip & better than my full size M&P 40. The difference between the Compact & the Shield is slight, too.

Glock has their G22 full size, G23 compact & G27 subcompact in .40 Cal.

The major trade-off between FS & compacts is the magazine capacity.
