So I have a S&W M&P.40 VTAC and I noticed that both of my factory mags rattle when loaded. I emailed smith and wesson about the problem, and the reply I received was, "this is normal for this gun." What!?!? Are you serious??? That's your solution to someone who just purchased a $600 firearm from your company!??? Anyone else receive poor service like this??
I have an M&P 40 with 4 magazines and they all do this. I was concerned at first but it hasn't caused me a single issue with the few thousand rounds I've put through it.
I suspect it has to do with the magazines being able to also handle 357 Sig. I just unloaded a magazine that had 40 S&W and reloaded it with 357 Sig and there is no rattle. So I guess that qualifies as a feature.
Mine rattle too...if I'm standing/sitting around shaking them...but they don't rattle when in the gun! So my solution is to not stand/sit around shaking them.
Yeah Im not having any problems with the gun and the ammo. gun works flawless. the rattle is just annoying and didnt know if everyones mags did this. Thanks!!!
This might sound nuts but try it. I've experienced the rattle in the mags on rare occasion in Glocks and a guy from GlockTalk posted the fix. It also works for me on one of my M&P45 mags that does this on occasion.
-Hold the loaded mag in your weak hand while using your thumb to apply just a bit of downward pressure on the bullet on top
-While doing this, give the mag a good smack from the bottom on the baseplate with your strong hand.
To the OP, welcome to you also! My mags rattle as well, just doesn't bother me.
Before you go accusing S&W of poor customer service you might want to actually check out the lifetime warranty provision of the owners manual. They fix almost anything free of charge, with free shipping, for the life of the firearm. Seems pretty good to me.
Not bad service, just the truth!! Double stack M&P mags rattle.......if you shake them. Don't shake them!!! :yes:yes:yes
I have dealt with the S&W Customer Service Dept. on a few issues. They have provided me with excellent, timely service and I have always been satisfied. I could not ask of more!!:animier::animier::animier:
I have 3 mags for my m@p 40 that rattle just as you describe and poster wicked mp replied with the same thing I do and it goes away but will come back so I also just don't stand and shake my mags
Try this and see if it helps. After loading a magazine, give the butt end of it a sharp rap or two on your thigh. You might feel rounds settling a bit too if you do this. I got up and went to the safe and got out a .40 and .45ACP (M&P) and could get mine to rattle, If I shake 'em hard enough. I think there's been 2 or 3 solutions for that, already offered up.
I have this as well my issue is it's my duty weapon and the rattle is annoying as the two in my mag carrier rattle. I've become used to it but when I'm walking down the hall sometimes another officer will ask what that sound is.
I just bought a used M&P 45c that the previous owner lost the backstraps for. Of course the one on the gun is the large & I hate it. I emailed them & asked if I could buy a small & medium and also asked about an extended floor plate. Next day I got an email that my no charge order had been processed & should be here in 10-15days. That's pretty damn good service to a second hand owner to a gun that is a few years old! I was planning to buy a Ruger AR if I decide to get one, but I seriously think I will take a long hard look at a Smith!
Too bad the OP won't change the thread title; as it's obvious that no one but him thinks he ever had a "problem," much less that S&W offers anything but great CS.
I think he checked out a while ago from this thread.
Just wanted to follow up, Smith parts arrived yesterday as promised! I now have a full set of backstraps and a much needed floorplate. Cheers to S&W for phenomenal customer service!
Since your "problem" isn't really a problem, it's a common occurrence, and other magazines also rattle and S&W told you so, I think it's time to rename this thread. It wasn't "bad customer service", it was correct information.
the rattle is good, especially if you fall down...you can shake the gun and the search & rescue team will hear the rattle and locate your position...NORMAL...
