I bought the full-size M&P 45 about 4 years ago. I use the small grip insert. Fits my hand great. Its been 100 percent so far. The only pistol that fits my hand better is the 1911 government model.
About 2 years ago I bought the 45 compact version of the M&P. It has the 8 round magazine. I use the magazine with the extended floorplate. Its also 100 percent.
Recoil is very controllable and accuracy is center mass on a silhouette target. I am at the age where groups aren't as important as hitting at POA to stop the threat.
Congratulations! I don't own one,(yet), but I get to shoot a FS a friend of mine owns. He has the Apex FSS Trigger Kit in his and it shoots awesome! Very manageable recoil and very accurate. Hope this helps!
Thanks everyone. I will hopefully be getting to the range this week. Lucked out with Academy having Federal Train and Defend packages (100rds fmj/ 20rds Hydra-Shok) on sale for $55.99, so I bought two. I will post range results as soon as I can.
I've had a FS M&P45 for about 5-6 years. Back in the day (pre-Apex) the triggers were more than a bit rough, but as soon as I got it I had Dan Burwell tune the trigger to a perfect butter smooth 4-1/2lbs . I like it enough that it soon replaced a much loved 1911 as my bedside pistol, and enough that I eventually bought an M&P45c as well.
My M&P45 FS with Trijicon sights and Crimson Trace laser in a Blackdog Concealment OWB holster.
Anyone have any issues when chambering the first of a mag when it was new? I'm sure it will be fine when the mag springs soften up a bit and I've shot it a few times, but I was just curious if this was normal. My 40 never did this.
Only issue I had with my M&P45 was a failure to feed about every 4th round out of the mag. It would pinch the new round between the extractor and the breech face and lock up. I swapped out the factory extractor for an Apex tool steel extractor and that solved the issue. Now it shoots like a champ.
I had already added the Apex FSS trigger and kit to it. Using Trijicon HD sights and extended mag release on it as well.
Love my 45c so congrats on the new gun purchase! I haven't had mine that long but I did not clean it out of the box and it has had 2 range trips with no failures. Enjoy the gun!
Wanted to add that the OWB kydex work on the Blackdog holster looks high quality.
