M&P45 *** Problems in Paradise
I have a quick question for you. Has anyone encountered problems with a weird malfunction with their M&P, full sized, 45 autos, where the firearm fails to extract and you are unable to get the weapon apart for approx 20 mins?
When you finally do it it apart, you find that the ledge on the barrel partially broken away and it's all gouged up? I sent my Blue Label weapon back to Smith & Wesson and they turned it arounds in days with a new barrel. They told me that they had a heat treat problem with some of their weapons. Why wasn't this recalled? There customer service was simply outstanding. Only problem is, it happened again to my shooting buddies weapon today. I'm starting to lose confidence in this carry weapon and I have several of them.
Anyone encounter this?

Just speculating...they might know there is a problem, but might not have a good picture of the serial numbers involved, and don't want to do a recall till they have a better idea.

If they had a problem with heat treat problem with SOME of their barrels I'm betting that it isn't across the entire line and that it's a problem with a relatively few guns. If it was more than that we'd know about it and you wouldn't be the one person to come forward and tell us about it.
Sorry that you had the problem at all, but I'd bet that it's a more or less isolated problem, and now with your new barrel it's fixed for you. So at this point it's no big deal, move on and shoot the thing.

Glad to hear you got it fixed. I am also glad to hear about the problem that I have not heard about as of yet. You're problem is fixed but how many of us that just bought a new FS and Shield 45 have this problem? I have new of both and it makes me wonder.

My 45 Shield is still flawless, barrel included, after a few IDPA practices, and an instructor using it while teaching a two day class last weekend.
The barrel, including the ramp, still looks like brand new except for the usual wear ring in the black finish where it locks up on the muzzle end.
He has about 500 rounds through his personal 45 Shield with no issues either.
He was flying in from out of state with a small carry-on bag only, which is why he wanted to borrow mine for the class.

There is a problem because 2 of my shooting buddies have the same problem. Plus, I have another New in the box with the next serial number. This was only with the full size, 45acp not the Shield.

Great! Just read this thread. My new full size is waiting for me at my FFL. I bought it because I love my .45 shield so much. No one has the serial numbers of the pistols with bad barrels? I would have to think S&W knows unless QC is an issue for them too? In firearm production and assembly all parts are kept track of in case something like this happens. The liability issue is so huge for a manufacturer. I can't believe S&W doesn't know the serial numbers of the pistols that the bad batch of barrels are installed in?!
