Storm Lake M&P 40 threaded barrel thoughts experiences?

Just added this barrel to my VTAC 40. Any thoughts suggestions or expectations? I plan on adding a SSS ESP Magwell and some Taran Tactical basepads. Compensator just installed.

I dont meen to rain on your parade, but storm lake barrels are like M&M`s w/peanuts.
There are many different colors, just not my taste.

This is just MY opinion: (others may vary)
Apex barrels, are the only way to go. All the others out there, are just hit&miss.

Can you elaborate just a little bit more please?

Apex guarantee`s 1inch groups at 25yds with their M&P gunsmith fit barrel.
Dosent get much better than that with a production made pistol.
I have a few apex barrels, they are on the money all day long.

They do make a M&P semi-fit drop in barrel, and they guarantee 1-1/2inch groups @ 25yds.

For what you pay for barrels, with NO guarantee, the apex is the only way to go. (in my own opinion)

Just food for thought, watch the video. Randy Lee is the owner of APEX Co. Great guy to talk to, and i have many times.

Hahaha now I wish I had gone that route. I'll have to try them out when I get some extra $$$. Until then guess I'll just get good with my storm lake.

You could sell the stormlake and recoup some of the money back, then put it towards the apex barrel. The apex semi-drop in would be a very good choice. And you could do the fitting of it yourself with a file and a honing stone... if needed.

The apex "gunsmith barrel" would require a VERY COMPETENT gunsmith to install... the average basement bandit gunsmith would likely not be able to do all the milling needed to make it fit properly and have it work to its full potential. And 95% of most shooters aren`t capable of the accuracy of the apex gunsmith barrel anyway.

Only problem is Apex doesn't make a 40 SW barrel. If they did, my M&P 40 would have An Apex barrel like my MP 9s do. I ordered a Storm Lake for my MP40 too. Should be here Monday.

The Storm Lake is amazing

Placed it in my VTAC 40 and bought a sweet compensator. The barrel doesn't like Perfecta 170gr. FMJ from Walmart having several failures to feed that I believe to be directly magazine spring or ammo related??? It thoroughly enjoyed and spat out great accuracy with Winchester products with no other failures. My 3rd Storm Lake Barrel and I love them.

I've installed and fitted, 2 Apex barrels in my 2- M&P 9mms. Did the Storm Lake improve accuracy in the M&P 40? I'd like to see my 40 be as accurate as my 9mms. Did you have to do any fitting? If not, how loose does the barrel fit.

I believe I am achieving better accuracy with the barrel but haven't done any solid testing. No fitment was required just drop it in and it's a pretty solid fit. My apologies for blaming the Perfecta ammo in my last post for my problems as it has occurred to me it could also be my magazine or recoil Springs. I've added alot to the frame of my VTAC to make the 40 not pop so hard and it worked now I need to ensure my pistol functions flawlessly. +1 on the barrel though. All ammo fired was bullseye unless I screwed up my fundamentals. I shot out to 21' repeatedly hitting center mass red about 2'x2' with multiple rounds on top of eachother.

14' Target at steady rate of fire

I was putting about 1 round per second sometimes a bit faster and results held up at 21' but I forgot pics.

Thank you. I can't wait to try out the Storm barrel in my M&P 40. I hope mine fits tight in the slide too. Guess I'll have to wait a little longer to see now.

FedEx is showing that its not here now till Tuesday. Glad I paid the extra shipping for it to show up the same time it would of if it was sent normal shipping.

Got the Storm barrel in. It fits a lot tighter then the stock one. Not as tight at my APEX barrels that I hand fit, but its a big improvement. Can't get to the range for a few days, but I'll give it a go and let you guys know the results.

I can't wait to hear the results. I like Storm Lake but I don't know what the Apex difference really is.
