Without getting into the legal aspects of the discussion, and purely for educational and entertainment purposes, is it possible to modify a regular M&P9 to fire in full auto?
I'm not talking about a switch back and forth from semi auto to full conversion. However, any type of filing of sears or blocks which would allow the gun to fire the entire 17 rounds with one trigger pull.
What do you guys think? Is this modification possible?
I respectfully disagree. There are far worse things than this to be found on the net. If some fool decides to make thier handgun full auto, that's on them and no reflection on anybody else here talking pistlesmith tinkering for entertainment's purpose.
It's no secret as to modifications that can be performed on a striker fired pistol platform. The FSSG (Fire Selector System for Glock) device has been available for more than a decade; see the Defense Review article. The FSSG is used by some special response teams for airport security, personal protection details and SOF operators.A video of the FSSG in action. See attached for FSSG specifications.
The information regarding the Glock is also interesting and appreciated.
However, without going "full retard", I was inquiring about the M&P specifically. It seams the sear is what keeps the pistle semi auto from what I gather.
If a sear is integrated into any fire-control mechanism with a semi-auto platform, you can negligently alter the mechanism so that repetitive ignitions occur uncontrollably !........such tom-foolery is prime time material for TV shows like jack-ass.
The engineering in the FSSG is to allow controlled full-auto, thus the "selective switch" included in the name....as the mechanisms are similar in the glock and M&P, one could fabricate a clone for the M&P quite easily.
You're right Tiprip. To me, it's just like a few gun enthusiasts talking about this at the range or in the shop. Afterall, that's what this forum is all about. It doesn't mean we're going to our garages afterwards and ruining our guns, creating illegal weapons.
To answer the OP, yes, it is completely possible. Also, very illegal unless you are a manufacturer with a paid SOT. That being said, what a waste of ammo. I've got a sear for a G17 and the thing is very mac-like in the rate of fire and nearly uncontrollable. I can see very little utility for this sort of setup. Contrary to the prior poster, it would be a disaster in any LE or security setup. I can think of other much better options (MP7, for example).
