APEX FSS install

I have a new full size M&P, which needs some trigger work. I am a 1911 shooter and have been told that the FSS will get the M&P trigger feel closer to that of a 1911. I see that APEX will do a Level 4 Trigger job for $245 plus shipping probably making the total job ~$300. I no next to nothing when it comes to working on the M&P and am not sure I would be able to handle the install myself (as I don't have the tools needed anyway). Is it worth the extra ~$140 to send it to APEX and have them do the work or should I try it myself? Are there any smiths in the Dallas Forth Worth area that have experience working on the M&P and anyone here would trust installing the APEX FSS?

I'm sure that there is a qualified smith in your area. If you are unsure, I would not hesitate to send it in for the work. If it's a handgun that you plan on staking your life and your loved one's lives, you can never be too careful. I don't think I could do it without help and the proper tools. Happy Shooting! -Dirvo-

This install is not too tough if you're mechanically inclined and the tools can be had for about $30, less if you have some tools already. If APEX does the work you are assured an exceptional trigger.

Many local gunsmiths, especially those who work mostly on the G brand, seem to leave out parts like the striker block spring and cap for some reason.

The self install is pretty easy. I did it myself two weeks ago. The last time I worked on a gun was when I put together my lower on an AR15. Aside from that never really took apart a gun fully.

Watch the FSS install video and then watch the AEK Trigger Install video

AEK Install - YouTube

I had to open my "loop" a bit like on the video to 18 thousands of an inch from 14. Used a feeler gauge to measure which I bought from autozone for $6.

Also the roll pin on the trigger was a pain to hammer in. Apex has it pre-installed so all you have to do is knock it in the rest of the way.

Total time for me was 1.5 hours.

Thanks. Sounds like I will give it a shot soon. If it turns out I can't get it right I can always have a smith look at it.

Why? Not that it matters, but I carry a Champion Operator. The M&P is for range and IDPA until I get my STI Trojan. I might carry the M&P on occasion.

I was making a joke regarding the not knowing how to do the job 100%. if its a carry gun, I would want to know for sure that its going to go bang when you need it to.

What did you find out?
