I went by this S&W M&P PISTOL FIELD PACK - Brownells Used it as a reference for the tools I did not already have. I bought the bench block listed in the kit, but honestly could have just used a block of wood with a leather cover and holes drilled through it. Hope it helps. |

| I'm considering making one out of that white cutting board material and gluing(contact cement or Gorilla glue) an old computer mouse pad to the top of it.(just to kind of give it a little cushion)

Sounds like a good idea. Just make sure it's thick enough to let the pin drop free on the other side. | |

You can go to the flooring department of Home Depot / Lowe's etc......they sell 4" square wood flooring sample sizes for ~ 99 cents each; some already have the padding on the opposite side. I have found securing them together with counter-sunk screws endures the pounding better than if they are glued together. ![]() A great alternative is to use a 5 lb. "sinker" or fishing weight with holes placed where the pins need to be displaced. Lead blocks have been a gunsmiths' friend for generations. ![]() Both the aforementioned fabricated bench blocks are much better than the round style , either the polymer or the steel type. The round is awkward and inadequate in diameter to support the frame / slide size when removing pins. All those holes are never in the right spot to be useful. |

I use a small piece od pine 2 x 4 (12" or so) with a 1/2" hole drilled through. Works great and cost nada.
