Questions about conversion barrels

So I'm considering a Storm Lake conversion barrel for my Pro .40 so I can put some 9mm downrange.

- Will I need another recoil spring or will the .40's spring do double duty?

- Will 9mm work out of the .40 magazine or do I have to start a second collection of mags?

And for those that change back and forth between the .40 and 9mm barrels, how drastic is the change in point of impact, if any?

Replacement recoil assemblies from S&W are the same part number for 9mm, .357 SIG and .40 S&W.

You'll need a 9mm magazine.

Change in POI is negligible.

Hi guys
Just a question, about this subject you mean it's possible to have one handgun and 3 different barrels and magazines ? And is this cost effective? I currently am looking at a m&p 9, I have a m&p 22 among other handguns but this seems like a good idea

In order to convert to or from .40 S&W and .357 SIG only a barrel swap is required.

To convert from either .40 S&W or .357 SIG to 9mm a "9mm Conversion Barrel" from either Storm Lake Barrels or KKM Precision and a 9mm magazine is required. Ignore any and all suggestions to use anything other than a 40/357 to 9mm conversion barrel to convert.

If shooting factory ammo, the more one shoots 9mm over .40 S&W or .357 SIG the more the savings add up.

$77.99 for a factory .357 SIG barrel
$165.00 for a KKM Precision 40/357 to 9mm conversion barrel

Lets say one can get cheap 9mm for $0.19 a round and cheap .40 S&W for $0.25 a round. Shooting 2750 rounds of the cheap 9mm over the .40 will pay for the conversion barrel. Ammo For Sale : Cheap Ammo : Find Ammunition at AmmoSeek.com

$165.00/$0.06 = 2750 rounds of 9mm

To do that in a year that is only 229 rounds or $43.51 a month shooting cheap 9mm ammo.

Don't forget, to convert you must start with a .40 or 357.
A 9MM will only work with 9MM barrels no conversions available.

There was a lot of testing on another site about using the factory M&P 9mm barrel in the M&P .40 frame. I picked up both a regular and threaded factory barrel in 9mm for my M&P .40 and it has worked fine. It has also been plenty accurate as I shot a 1.25", 5 shot group at 10 yards.

Do as you want but a Bar-Sto barrel would outshoot a factory barrel regardless.

I would comment that I had very poor reliability with my SL conversion barrel, with extraction and ejection issues every 5-10 rounds.

I put a S&W factory 9MM barrel in my M&P 40 and have not had a problem either. It eats everything.

I agree, just buy the factory 9mm barrels, much cheaper. And yes if you buy the 40 or 357 sig models than you can buy the other barrels and get some 9mm mags and then you are set up for 3 different calibers in one gun.

Factory barrels for the PRO are not sold individually.
