I'm going to get my MP9 next week, and I've read a lot of your post about the enhancement of the trigger.
I've some question to finalize my order for Kit. I want of course enhance the trigger job, my shooting practice is fun, IPSC. Not carry or home defense. So I want the more light and smooth trigger.
I thought buying the FSS alu kit, as a lot of you installed it on their MP. But I saw also APEX propose a "competition kit" (AEC), with a light pull, but without the trigger itself. So if I want the complete kit, I have too buy also the Alu trigger as spare part.
My questions are :
- does the FSS Alu kit is equal to "competition kit", regarding the trigger pull and job ?
- does the Alu trigger is mandatory in conjonction with competition kit to have the same kit and result of the FSS ?
or is the result will be different between [FFS alu kit] versus [competition kit and Alu Trigger]
No, the FSS kit will engage the sear sooner, giving you less pre-travel and overtravel. On top of this it will be cleaner/crisper/lighter than the factory trigger.
The competition kit will be similar in terms of where the factory trigger breaks, but it too will be much cleaner/crisper/lighter than the factory trigger.
From your post, sounds like you need the FSS kit, in conjunction with your factory trigger spring or even apex tactical competition trigger return spring. This will give you a lighter pull than using either of the trigger return springs included with the FSS kit.

The combination of the AEK trigger with the Competition kit will get you similar results to the FSS kit, but not on the same level. Go with the FSS kit. It will have less uptake and overtravel.

I finally bought and installed the FSS Kit this sunday... Hard job for trigger spring, but .. what a great trigger ! Amazing!!
I thank you for your advice, and be very happy for the kit. I recommand like all of you this kit.
A friend of mine choose the competition kit to keep the manufactured tirgger, so we coud compare both.
You can add a Competition spring kit to lower the FSS kit's pull weight another pound or more, but you may have to modify the trigger safety to avoid a nasty little hitch in the action.
I had the APEX FSS and trigger installed on my MP9C
It now has the same free travel 1/16 as my SR1911
However my SR1911 breaks at 4.5lbs
The MP9C breaks at 3.5 lbs
I am trying to get a Thumb Safety installed on the MP9C
If it has a trigger like a 1911 it better have a Thumb Safety like a 1911
The Thumb safety is not compatible with RAM system, if you had installed the RAM, you could install the thumb safety too.
I had also installed the RAM with the FSS kit.
Going with the FSS kit was a good decision. All my IPSC guns have the FSS kit in them. Two of them have the polymer trigger and one has the aluminum trigger. Our two carry guns both have the DCAEK kits (duty/carry) and I added the polymer trigger. One of our competition guns has a 2.5 lbs trigger pull. The others more like 3-3.5 lbs. Love the guns with Apex parts in them!
@ Jack :
I choose the ALU trigger for good finish. I love the FSS kit, it's very amazing.
About guns and firearm in France, you'll be surprised by our choice and how many guys own several guns, legaly of course. I can say that the only restriction is the "full auto" and the number: 12 guns. Look at my signature the list of my personal guns.
We are not restricted by barrel lenght, collapsible stock, mag capacity, suppressor, caliber etc..
France is more "free" than some of yours states about guns law !
!C'est genial! So....France has better coffee, wine AND GUN RIGHTS than California? I hope your politicians are better there too.
You have a nice collection of firearms maxfr!!! I've seen the MAS 36 here in the United States and it looks like a beautiful rifle. I would like to see the FAMAS here in the U.S.A. as well...I would love to shoot one just for fun. Are the .357 Sig, .40 and .45 ACP calibers popular in France?
It says something that the M&P pistols (AND the APEX trigger system) are liked overseas. Maybe the Police Nationale and GIPN will carry M&P's one day instead of Sigs and Glocks.
thanks !
you know, politicans are politicans, whatever the country... :realmad:
About caliber, 45 ACP is very appreciated here, 40 is more used for IPSC, 357 sig is more confidential. However, 9 para is very the main caliber for handgun.
About LEAF handgun, it is a big storry here, after MAS G1 (beretta 92 copy), they choose the SIG 2022, even if a lot of policemen desapprove this gun. They prefer Glock, but "men on field" are not listened.
but I think this post is not the place to discuss about France law and guns, maybe can we continue on my introduction post
The Aluminum trigger is a bit crisper, but most casual shooters won't even feel it. The polymer, with it's softer rounded edges, feels a bit more comfortable.
APEX FSS and aluminum trigger install 9MM CORE: I am improving a M&P CORE 9MM for USPSA/Steel Challenge type shooting. When I first installed the FSS trigger, the trigger bar loop was shifting right of the APEX sear, as viewed from above and behind the trigger. I first turned the trigger 5.5 lb spring 180 degrees. The spring loop direction seemed to have an impact on trigger bar alignment. Making small bending adjustments, the trigger bar loop now fully engages the sear and is parallel with the extractor. The sear is just below parallel when the trigger bar loop completes its full rearward travel; the trigger loop appears to be set at the correct height. This was worth the modification; very happy with the trigger job and would recommend this for those wanting a better trigger than factory.
I like to put Apex's Duty/Carry kit and AEK trigger (tuned to 4-5lbs) in my no-safety M&Ps and in my Shield w/safety (5-1/2lbs), and the FSS kit tuned to 4lbs in my two safety equipped M&P45s. If I don't have a safety available then I want a fairly long but smooth and crisp trigger pull, with a quick reset. What I did not want was a 1/8" (or less) 4lb pull on a pistol without a safety.
