Picked up a ported CORE earlier in the week and wanted to share the trigger pull out of the box as well as how the trigger pull improved with various springs from the Apex Competition Kit.

I decided to take an incremental approach to get a better sense of what impact the trigger return spring and sear spring would have individually.

Out of the box pull - 6 pounds 6 ounces

Pull out of the box is bit heavier than I expected. The break is clean but it lacks any audible reset.

Polished trigger bar - No change

Minor machine marks on the trigger bar. Before polishing, the trigger did not feel gritty.

Cleaned and lubed - No change

Gun had factory grease on it. Cleaned the gun with BreakFree CLP. Oiled normal spots. The slide moved much better after the cleaning.

Competition Trigger Return Spring - 5 pounds 12 ounces

This had a bit more impact on the trigger pull than I expected.

Competition Sear Spring - 4 pounds 14 ounces

Just changed the sear spring and not the sear. From past changes I am pretty sure that changing out the sear would get me pretty close to a 4 pound pull.

I did not use the striker spring as I would rather ensure proper primer strikes (even though I mostly shoot Federal).

The stock trigger and stock sear with the Apex springs did result in an improved trigger pull but honestly I am a little disappointed that out of the box that the pistol was as heavy as it was. I'm sure with some rounds through the gun things would lighten up a little bit.

My goal for this gun is to have a pull for competition use around 3 1/2 pounds. I have ordered the Flat Faced FSS as well as the RAM to improve the reset. I plan on leaving the competition trigger spring in the gun and swapping back to the factory spring if necessary to achieve my desired trigger pull.

I think Apex does a great job with their parts and should have the flat faced trigger tomorrow.

On my Shield, I put in just the sear and the sear spring and saw a trigger pull reduction of 2 1/2 pounds. It went from 7 and a 1/2 pounds to 5 pounds. Perfect for carry (mine has a safety) for me.

Got the flat faced FSS trigger installed today.

It is great that on the Core you don't have to take off the rear sight to get out the striker block. You will need a .050 hex to take out the striker block cover.

I left the competition trigger return spring in the gun and I also am trying the stock sear spring (Apex recommends against using the competition sear spring). With these spring and the rest of the kit the trigger pull is 2 pounds 6 ounces.

I plan on running a few hundred rounds through it to verify that the stock sear spring doesn't have sear flutter. If I have any issues then I'll put in the supplied stronger sear spring. There doesn't seem to be a great difference between the stock sear spring and the Apex FSS sear spring. The Apex spring seems to be about 20 percent stiffer.

Went to the range today and encountered the occasional dead trigger. After getting back home I swapped in the Apex sear spring. Trigger pull went up only a couple of ounces to 2 pounds 8 ounces. We'll see if that solves the dead trigger issue or if I will need to replace the striker.

If you have a CORE the striker access is under the optics mounting plate instead of the rear sight.

When the guy in the video takes the cover off you can see a little silver colored plate, that's what holds the striker in. Be sure to use good quality American made inch size, NOT METRIC, to remove those allen head screws, 5/64" cover screws, the silver color plate is held in with a .050" allen head screw.

Some guys have tried their cheap Chinese allen head wrenches and stripped them out. Use good quality American made allen head wrenches, 5/64" and .050", inch sizes not metric, not Torx.

I think I had one of the first USB for the CORE. At that time, their web page did not differentiate between CORE and non CORE. The Apex USB would not work correctly. Not the same length as the non CORE. I sent it back to Apex and they sent me another one. That fixed the issue which was the hinged trigger was catching on the frame as the USB was not engaging soon enough (too short). At least that is how I remembered it. At any rate, Apex took care of it.

Ended up having to replace the striker as the dead trigger persisted after changing the sear spring. Ran 200 rounds through it today and did not encounter a dead trigger. I'm probably going to change out the competition trigger return spring for the stock one as I would like for the trigger return to be more positive than it is presently. I've had a few instances of unintended double taps and that's not something that any of us want to happen.

I picked up a Ported Pro 5" that had a spent shell case date of June 30 and the trigger is awesome. 3.5lb pull, solid and audible reset and contoured ram. It is far and above the best stock M&P that I have ever bought! I will not do any modifications to this gun.

I've got the 5" Pro CORE, not ported, trigger pull out of the box was over 6 lbs, replacing the striker block and sear with Apex parts brought it down to a bit over 4 lbs. Don't remember the date on the casing but its not that old since the CORE models haven't been out that long. Stock trigger was no better than the stock trigger on the full size 40 I bought several years ago, as I recall the reset was better differentiated but the measured trigger pull was about the same as the older full size 40 before I installed the Apex parts in it.
