They work. Quite a few of us on the forum have them installed.

The gunsmith fit 5" barrel made a dramatic difference in accuracy. Night & Day difference from the factory barrel. No regrets. I'll buy them again and again

I have to give a shout out to Apex and Randy Lee. I purchased a semi-drop in barrel for my 5" Pro Series shortly after they became available. I fit it to my gun in less than 30 minutes. When I tried to load it, the rounds would not feed. They got stuck on the feed ramp. I tried ammo from several different manufacturers with the same results. I took it out and shot it with the same results.

I sent an email to Apex customer service explaining the problem. The next day I got a call from Randy Lee. He spent about 15 minutes on the phone with me going through my fitting process and exactly where the problem was occurring.

He wound up emailing me a shipping label and had me send the gun to him. About a week later I got a call from Krystal in Apex customer service saying the gun was finished. Apparently, they had to change the profile of the feed ramp.

She went on to mention that they noticed I had an older version of the Apex competition trigger and would I like them to change it out for the newer version. I asked how much that would cost, and she said there would be no charge. Wow. "Yes, please!"

I received the gun a few days later and headed of to a 4-day handgun course. I took my stock barrel along, just in case. 800 rounds down the Apex barrel and the gun ran flawlessly and was very accurate. I haven't shot any groups from a rest, so I don't know how much more accurate it is, but I am very happy with the results.

I can't thank Apex enough for going above and beyond in the level of customer service they provided to me.

Has anyone tried fitting the Apex barreling into a 40 S&W... It should fit, but wanted to know if anyone had already tried this.

Thanks for the information so far!
What I'm really looking for is group sizes at 25 & 50 yards.
My original M&P, 5" Pro barrel would do 2" at 25 yards, with loads it liked. Then I sent the pistol to S&W for warranty work, and they replaced the barrel with one that I can't get to shoot under 4" at 25 Yards.
I picked up a KKM barrel, but, so far, have only found one load that will group under 2' at 25 yards.
In my search so far, I've only read one report of a fellow that shot benched groups at 25 & 50 yards with a barrel that had been fitted by Apex, and was wondering if the semi-drop ins were nearly as good.
Thanks Again!!

Before the Apex barrel my gun was hard pressed to shoot a 4" group at 15 yards. After I installed the Apex barrel it shot <2" groups at 25 yards. No where does Apex claim it to work for 160 grain bullets, but that's what I'm using.

Brian,
Have you tried any other loads?
My 2nd best groups, with my KKM are with 160 grain Black bullets, sized to.357"

I only did while I was using the OEM and Wilson barrels. I like the rabbit fart load so much better and haven't looked back.

I haven't visited MP-PISTOL.COM in a while, so forgive me for replying to this thread several days since last activity.

My experience with the Apex barrel is almost exactly the same as that of "jdubpro" as quoted. I bought my M&P Pro 5" in December. I already had the Apex FSS w/flat faced trigger along with a number of other mods for IDPA ESP, so the barrel was the final thing I wanted to get.

After purchasing the semi-drop-in from Brownell's on pre-release status, I got it fit just like what Randy showed in the video. I had the same result with the rounds from many different brands hanging on the feed ramp. I sent the barrel back once and they reworked the feed ramp for me, but it didn't help. I carefully examined what was happening and wrote a detailed email with pics to describe where I thought the error was.

A day later, Randy Lee called me directly and we talked for about 10 minutes about the function of the barrel and what mine was doing. I ended up sending my whole M&P to Apex and they put in a gunsmith fit barrel. Also while there, they replaced some older parts for my trigger kit with newer versions. The gunsmith that did the work called me to explain that my pistol was at the edge of Smith & Wesson's tolerances and that was why the semi-dropin barrel wouldn't work. Basically, the gunsmith fit barrel looks nothing like the semi-dropin when they start....just a barrel with a hunk of steel on the end. Every surface at the chamber end was machined to fit my pistol.

Upon returning it after a week, it arrived very well packed (about 10 layers of bubble wrap) and some paperwork, including a target from a bench rest test by Randy. At 25 yards, it grouped in the magical "one ragged hole" pattern. I'm very happy with it's performance in competition as well as range shooting and Apex gets kuddos for their fantastic customer support.

I would assume that he shot from a rest. When evaluating the barrel/gun you need to eliminate the human factor. When you get the gun to a known level, then you can work on getting the shooter to the same level. That is the way I did it anyway.

Sorry, yes, arms on sandbags for exactly the reason Don mentioned. I wanted to test the gun and not me. Or to remove as much of me as possible from the equation.
