Looking for a sear block safety housing for a full-size M&P 40

The department that I work for requires that our duty weapons have a safety. I have a full-size M&P 40 that does not have a safety, and I'd like to put one on it so I could use it for work. I tried contacting S&W directly to see if they would sell me a sear block safety housing for the gun, but they told me they don't sell them to the general public. I have tried numerous other businesses in my search for the part, but no one sells it and can't order it either. Does anyone here have a sear block safety housing for a full-size M&P 40, or know where I can get one? Thanks.

Have you asked S&W about having them install one for you, and advised them that you as a LEO "need it" for your job?

Good luck, Sir.

Will be hard to find. You might have to send the gun to S&W.

I tried sending the gun back to S&W, and explained that I'm LEO too, but they said they can't put them on as only the customer can make modifications to the gun after it's left the factory. They said once a gun is issued a serial number and sold by them, they are unable to make any further modifications, even if the gun is sent back to them. But of course the customer can make any modifications they want themselves.... So I'm kinda stuck here.

If I remember correctly, if you have the frame cutouts for the safety and you don't have an internal lock on the gun then you can just get the safety lever, spring, and housing and retrofit the gun. You may not even need to change your sear block.

But they won't sell you the part...great!

I'd call back, and ask for the supervisor of everyone that wouldn't give me what I needed, until I got to someone that could!

Good luck, Sir.

I think you may be right. I spoke with a representative at SpeedShooterSpecialties.com who advised all I needed was the M&P Manual Safety Lever and the M&P Manual Safety Lever Detent Ball and Spring kit. Cost was $31.30 with shipping. Hopefully that's all I need. It should arrive in a few days and I'll take it apart and see if it's correct.

ScubaBoy, you were correct. The safety lever and the detent ball and spring were all I needed to retrofit my existing SBH into a SBH with a safety. Thanks for the advise!

Glad to hear you got things sorted so you can use it as your duty weapon.
