Holster for FS pro series 40?

I'm looking for a solid holster for an M&P 40 pro series full sized pistol.......now the real question becomes, who makes a good fitting holster that will support my gun.....and compounding the problem is I have a tactical light I like to keep on there, especially when she is on my nightstand.

any recommendations?

Considering...

  • There are two sizes of the M&P40 Pro
  • There are a number of different weapon mounted lights available
  • There are different holsters for different styles of carry
  • Holsters are made from a number of different materials

How does one determine what is a solid, good fitting holster that supports your gun and weapon light?

More information please.

I am about to get an M&P40 Pro. Are the different sizes you're talking about the Pro and the L model?

No, the M&P40 Pro comes in both 4.25" & 5" models, the M&P40L is also a 5" model.

You are absolutely right. I suppose I meant to ask if there was a physical difference between the 40L and the Pro 5". I can only find one 5" on the S&W website, the pro model.

The only differences other than engravings between the M&P40L and the 5" Pro are the 5" Pro has FO sights and the Performance Center tuned action while the L has a stock action with night sights.

I don't see a photo of the pistol... I even snagged the URL from the failed link and all I could see was an NcStar product.

If the light is that NcStar, there isn't a good holster that will work with that, reason is most everyone thinks NcStar makes junk. Put the NcStar away and get something from Insight, Streamlight, SureFire or possibly even Viridian.

Of the two pictures below, which M&P is it?

#1 M&P40 Pro 4.25"

#2 M&P40 Pro 5"

There is a difference in the slide profile between the 9L and 9Pro.
There is no difference in slide profile between the 40L and 40Pro.

SOME holsters designed for the 9L will NOT fit any other 5" M&P.
All Holsters for the 9 Pro will also fit the 9L and 40L and visa versa.

9L vs 9 Pro... The 40 L and 40Pro have the same slide as the 9 Pro

I would check out Blade Tech Industries for light bearing holsters; they have them in different configurations for a number of lights.

Including
  • SureFire x200 & x300
  • Insight M3/M6
  • Streamlight TLR-1 & TLR-2

If you don't mind waiting (16-18 weeks) Raven Concealment Systems has one called the Phantom LC. The have the most options available, but they are swamped with orders.

Phantom Light Compatible Holster

There are lots of others making Kydex Holsters, some will have you send in the light you want the holster to match.

Lastly you could make your own.
