Optics for the M&P 9 CORE

Hi all just got my M&P 9 CORE and was shooting in the 9 ring at 7 o'clock. I was a little disappointed but wanted to get some optics for it anyway. I have all these shims that came with it and was wondering what red dot optics will fit on it besides the high priced brands they mention. Any one have experience with optics for the core and lead me in the right direction. I like the Mueller red dot but not sure if it will fit. looks like it rides pretty high. Need some advice on this one
Thanks

I have the Burris Fastfire 3, works great, it sits a little high so it doesn't co-witness with the stock sights very well. It fits one of the plates that came with the pistol. Battery compartment is on the top as well, and it's very moderately priced.

I went hog wild and got the Ttijicon. I've always said you get what you pay for. Love it. No regrets. Good luck with your choice.

The Vortex Razor is a good option to check out. They have the best no questions asked warranty in the business

If you are just going to use it for a range toy, get anything you want. My EDC guns, for the last 3 years, have Trijicon RMR's, no problems. Do not go cheap if you are going to bet your life on anything.

But will the Vortex Razor fit the CORE? Not all the red dots will fit on the CORE model. Leupold is bringing out a new model, its too long, it won't fit without removing the rear sight on the pistol, some people won't want to do that.

Not 100% G56 and I completely agree with babue. If this is an EDC gun, wait until you can get the absolute best. The RMR has the reputation it does for a reason.

Just confirmed that it does not fit correctly with any of the C.O.R.E. plates. Checked with Jerry M. (he shoots his C.O.R.E. with a Vortex Razor) and he says you need to mill a notch in the sight's base to get the Vortex Razor to fit. I then asked Vortex if that voids the warranty, they said if the work is done properly then it does not void the warranty..

Please confirm this for yourself before cutting away at your expensive sights.

Howdy
Using a C-More STS on my 9mm Ported.
They are a little hard to find (the sets is a bit to long and the RTS2 is much to long), but you can find them at Optic Planet or from C-more directly. The MSRP is $399 and Optic Planet has a 10% off deal and free shipping on the STS.

My wife and I recently purchased Trijicon RM 07's for our M&P 9l CORE's. I mounted them and worked with them in the shop, bore sighting them with a laser and testing them and the controls under a variety of lighting conditions.
No problems.
Took them to the range yesterday. After about 20 rounds through each gun, they BOTH experienced the same failure: dimming/disappearing dot. Dot would return after gun was tapped/fired.
Not a battery issue. Apparently these sights are not designed to withstand recoil forces when mounted on a handgun.
They are boxed with RMA for return to Optics Planet.

Vortex does make a model now that is specifically for the CORE. I was looking at it last night. Its the "Viper" model. They even have a pic of it mounted on a CORE on their website.

Vortex Optics - Viper Red Dot 6 MOA Dot

This is probably the route Im going to go. And don't be scared off by the price. I was able to find them for about $100 less than on the Vortex website, with a little shopping around.

Edit: Yup, looks like they sell for $229 all over the internet. Which is a great price. Especially with such an awesome warranty program.

Hmmm, I have hundreds of rounds through mine with no problems.

There was an issue awhile back something like that that I read about before buying mine, but Trij' fixed it. I wonder if you got some of the old ones before the fix?

About a month or so back I picked up a S&W Victory 22, having a couple of pistols with red dots and really loving them, I wanted a red dot for it also. I ordered a Vortex Venom red dot, and as an experiment I checked it out on the CORE and it fit beautifully. As far as a co witness you can barely see the iron sights, but they are visible, so they could be used in an emergency.

I mounted the Vortex Venom on the Victory 22 and have taken it to the range a few times, I personally like the Venom better than the FastFire 3, on the automatic setting the red dot is brighter in the sunlight than the FastFire, yet it dims nicely indoors. I give a hearty thumbs up to both the new Victory 22 and the Vortex Venom red dot!

In addition, the Vortex Venom comes with a little dust cover which completely covers the sight, protecting it from dirt and dings when you aren't using it.

+1 on the Vortex Venom. Have it on a Ruger 22/45 Lite and it works great.
