I do much the same, but use my "buy" number and a letter to designate each mag' from that purchase. As I sit at my computer the basepad of the mag in my comp' gun is facing me and I see "2D" on the basepad. It was part of my 2nd buy of magazines and by chance was the 4th magazine I marked. Each of my mags has a unique designation just in case I begin to experience malfunctions.

No number or marking here.
If I have one for a gun the malfunctions it goes away and I garner a new unit to replace it.

Same with my rifle mags.

I was thinking of more ID that they are mine. I have started some action shooting and there may be more than 1 or 2 mags on the ground that you come back for. I'll have to try the silver or white perm. marker.

I use a label maker on all mine. I number them, then my initials follow the number.

Silver marker sounds like a great idea... if you keep the gun for forever,
but hard to remove before selling the gun & mags without signs of damage to the mags trying to remove the marker paint.

PaPow, do the labels stay on ok? Do you put them on the end of the mag or along the side? I have thought of putting mailing labels with just my last name on the side of the mag that goes into the mag well.
I tried a paint pen but the tip was too thick.

You can't recognize your mark? I always pick up my mags after the stage or someone does it for me if I'm checking the targets.

Brian K. - I can recognize my mark. Was just wondering what other people use to do it. Sometimes some one will forget to pick theirs up then you drop yours also and have to identify it.
I think the other people who responded understood my question. Thanks to those of you who did respond.

Hi Dan,
i use denatured alcohol (w/cotton gun patchs) to clean the surface first on the mags, they seem to stick on better and much longer with a super clean dry finish. I then put the labels on the side. I try to keep the labels low to the bottom of the mags... less damage to the label going in an out of the gun and mag holsters. No rules apply where you decide to install the label... put them where you think they`ll work best for you. I like them on the left lower side of the mag so that i can see the label during loading them in the gun.

Yes, they will eventually come off, but i usually replace the labels once a year anyway. I`ve tried everything under the sun as far as labeling my mags, the label maker method seems to last better than anything else i`ve tried, including paint. And the label maker method just looks better than writing with paint.

If you want the label to stay on longer, you can put clear nail polish over the label to protect it even better.

PaPowwwwww
