I wonder why the endurance M&P test shows the 08 gun shooting under 2 inch throughout a long session even with a cracked frame but some of the newer ones are way off.I hope they get the 9mm's to shoot like that test gun,I think the platform is very good. When I was out shooting my 1911 yesterday with my homecast rcbs 201K bullets they were going under 2 inchs at 25 yards easily,7 shot groups. The endurance gun shot like that. Before I sent my M&P in it never shot any groups that had any bullets clustered close to each other, always a small shotgun type pattern group. My other S&W guns are exceptional in group size.I know they have great abilities to make excellent firearms.I hope this wasn't some bean counter thing that hurts their reputation.

Well it seems I have one of the problem guns, it wont hold better than 3-4" at 15 yds, while my other fs will do an 1" with anything i put in it at the same distance. Well to really see where the rubber meets the road i have acquired a Ransom rest and just received my inserts for the FS. I will be testing several types and styles of ammo in the coming week and will report back with my findings.

Can't wait to hear your results with the Ransom rest! Although at this point I'm moving back towards the .40 given all these issues. If ammo cost was the same the decision would already be made!

Alright here's some breakdown from today. These tests were performed from a FS that was just returned from Smith for the above mentioned accuracy problems. The tests were performed from a measured 10 and 25 yards at 42 degrees at an elevation of 5500 ft.

FACTORY BARREL 10 yds

115 federal fmj champion 1.7''

115 federal jhp 9bp .66''

124 + p bonded golden saber 1.2''

147 bonded winchester 3.2''

124 moly reloads 2.3''

115 +P+ gold dot .56''

25 YARDS

Factory barrel

115 federal fmj champion 7''

115 federal jhp 9bp 9''

115 winchester fmj 6''

115 +P+ gold dot 2.3''

KKM Suppresor barrel

115 federal fmj champion 5.2''

115 +P+ gold dot 3.7'' best 4 2.2''

124 moly reloads 4.6''

I was unable to finish testing due to it started to snow like hell but the tests will continue the first of next week. As you can see from the results there are some good groups and some definite ammo preferences in this FS. If you all want to donate some ammo for test feel free LOL!! Stay tuned

Tried some 147 cast bullets with 3.6 and 4 grains unique and it shot 2 and 3 inch groups at 25 yards.Win factory 115 ball went 3 inch. Some ammo and handloads still shot 5 to 6 inch groups. The pistol is fussy about what it'll shoot but I like the cast bullet handloads, they're real soft shooting.Going to try some 147 grain SD ammo.Seems like the pistol wants 147's.I got 3 inch groups with 115 and 124 ball handloads with unique also.I don't think they did much to it at CS but it's shooting well now.

Thanks for this. I have had difficulty getting any accuracy out of my PRO using 147 gr cast boolits using 3.4 gr of Unique. From your post it would appear I have to up the charge somewhat. I'll give it a try and see if accuracy improves with a tad more velocity. The 1 - 16 twist doesn't exactly favour aheavier bullt but maybe...

Take Care

Mine shoots fine. Likes 147gr Dardas Flat Point bullets over 3.5gr Solo 1000. Stays under 3" at 25yds.

I like the unique load a lot,it ejects well and easy to find brass.15 shot standing offhand groups go around 6 inchs with 10 or more going under 4 inchs. The flyers might be the early unlocking thing or me jerking the trigger.Rested with my wrist over a sandbag groups stay around 4 inchs and most under 3 inchs.I get good groups with 3.6 grains WSF but the ejection is kinda week.It meters better and would use it for close range offhand shooting by going up a little to get better ejecting but I get a little less accuracy.

The "endurance" M&P did not have a factory barrel.

What Grant may be refering to is that the 9mm barrel ToddG used in his test pistol was not exactly the same size barrel you recieved with your M&P9. His was from a short run of oversided O.D. M&P9 barrels that S&W made specifically for Ernest Langdon, presumedly to correct the early unlocking issue.

I am the source. I also know the company that made the barrel. It was a fitted barrel that was done for the S&W shooting team (+ Ken Hackathorn) several years ago.

S&W did not make the barrels. Mr. Langdon requested that they make then, but he was told no.

We will have more of these barrel shortly and will offer a fitting service as well.

Interesting... C4, do you have an ETA on these barrels? I've been waiting on the Apex/Bar-Sto barrel to be released for what seems like forever, but have just about given up. I swear, you wouldn't think that getting a hollow, steel cylinder in production would take longer than the Manhattan Project.
