Storm Lake 2 port barrel problems Anyone with a Storm Lake barrel and M&P having any

Anyone with a Storm Lake barrel and M&P having any issues?

I only have about 50 rounds through my SL 2 port barrel. It is "new to me" barrel. The previous owner stated he only fired 20 rounds through it and decided he did not like it.

Anyway, for some reason, when I chamber a round, the barrel seems to go out of place and the gun jams (I meticulously function checked with no issues on barrel installation). It happened twice today. The first time was when I inserted a mag and released the slide. I went to shoot and the trigger felt off - no reset and did not engage striker. I looked at the gun and immediately saw the barrel sitting low and out of place in the slide. Dropped the mag and tried to pull the slide back - nothing. The slide was stuck. Range officer had to grip the top of the slide very tightly (with left hand) and slap the pistol grip (using his right palm as if to forcefully grab the grip) with enough force just move the slide. He suggested something was wrong with the barrel or that it does not like my ammo.

In any case, I was frustrated and wanted to be safe. So, I switched it back to the OEM barrel and everything worked fine. Against better judgement, I installed the SL barrel again and function checked it again. All ok. Proceeded to fire. Worked great until 28th round. As the spent shell ejected and re chambered a new round, the trigger felt off again. I looked at the pistol and same thing happened. The barrel was not sitting flush in the slide.

With safety in mind, I took the barrel off for the last time. I did not want to damage my pistol or myself. Reinstalled the factory barrel and shot about 70 rounds without any issue.

What the heck!? Is this barrel a piece of garbage? Anyone else have issues like this? Any chance it might be an off spec barrel?

FYI, I was shooting Miwall 180 grain TMJ. Have shot these for a while without any issues at all.

Thank you in advance.

Sound more like an ammo/barrel problem. Try some factory ammo and see if it does it again.

You can always contact Storm Lake customer service and ask them to check it out. Seems you may have purchased a lemon.

Not big enough to make themselves very well known next door in Arizona.

I find a lot of bad press concerning their reloads. Sounds like a mistake buying their wares.

Thanks for the input. I will check out some factory ammo with the barrel when I get it back. I spoke with SL and they are going to check out the barrel for me. I hope it gets a thorough test and sent back before X-Mas. At this stage, I am just hoping they just replace the barrel.

Miwall is a CA company that produces factory reloads. They only sell at gun shows. They are great quality ammo and is very clean. I have yet to have any issues with their reloads. Most of the Calguns forum folks that have used Miwall ammo have all vouched for the ammo as well. Quite good stuff. If they happen to be a local gun show - check them out. They are good people and prices are good. Last time I bought, I paid $189.99+tax for 1k rounds 40s&w.
