New 9FS w/DCAEK = 7.5 lb. Pull - What?

A few weeks ago I bought a new M&P 9FS for EDC. I've had a 9c since Dec. 2014. After my experience with the 9c's stock ~8 lb. trigger I knew I wanted a DCAEK when I moved up to a 9FS.

So I also ordered the Apex DCAEK and had it (and the gun) delivered to a local gunsmith and FFL for install. Expected a new gun with a sweet trigger.

Range time the next day and ran about 200 rounds thru it. Trigger was certainly smoother than stock but reset barely perceptible. Pull weight seemed a little better than my 9c but not remarkably so. Didn't think to measure before firing.

Got home and measured (Wheeler analog pull scale) trigger and got a consistent (8-10 times) 7 - 7.5 lb. Huh?

I tested the pull guage with a 5lb weight (dumbell) and it measured 5 - 5.5 lbs.

As you know Apex advertises a consistent 5 - 5.5 lb. with the DCAEK and that's what I was expecting and want.

Since then I've confirmed that the trigger return spring is installed properly (opening faces up) and my LGS did in fact install all of the kit. I fully trust him. He also polished various parts to remove any factory burrs.

The gunsmith mentioned that he recently had a Shield with same results and maybe Apex had a bad batch of springs?

I know using the stock spring would reduce the weight. I could do that but I sure would like to know why the kit hasn't resulted in the advertised benefits, and what I paid for.

I'm the type that before I go back to a manuf. with a problem I like to have as much info as possible so I have an idea of what to expect.

Any ideas why I'm not getting even close to 5 - 5.5 lb?

Ever seen this happen before?

Any advice sincerely appreciated. Frustrated.
